Because of some recent set backs, I was upped to 40mg of prozac (was taking 20 for about a year) I thought prozac was suppose to be the one AD that didnt poop out that soon. I like it better than the others I have tried (no weight gain) but I sure hope it doesent stop working in another year. ....
Anyone else taking 40mg? Also, I have been extra tired, could this be from doubling my dosage?

I am in my 14th year with Prozac - so I have taken just about every dose... I am all the way back down to 10mg right now... the amount I need seems to be much more dependent on my current stresses than on the med "pooping" out.
For me, anyway, it's been a good med and I have been able to adjust it up and down. I remember that making the jump between 20mg to 40mg does cause a week or so of drowsiness, but it would pass.
Hopefully, that will be the case for you.

Ilene is sure was for me. First day on 20mg a lot of energy, second day anxiety, third day panic attacks all day. That's when i quit and it took at least 3 days of upped xanax to bring me back to normal. Fondly, Phillipa

Yes, you were one of the people who told me it was stimulating, and convinced me to call my pdoc. I'll be starting trazadone tonight.
Thanks,
I.

I have been on Prozac for 14 years. I have gone up and down on dosage, tried other meds, but have always been able to count Prozac as reliable. I take 20 mg in the am and 20 mg in the pm. I also take a mood stabilizer, lithium, with it. Fourteen years on both meds and I can say that they have helped me alot. That doesn't mean my depression doesn't cycle itself or that sometimes it feels like the meds aren't working, I work closely with the person who monitors my meds. I am bi polar by the way. As for side effects, I don't have any from the Prozac but I do have some with the lithium. I have polydipsia (extreme thirst) and dry mouth.

Hi M,
What dose (and brand) of Li do you take? What is your Li level?

I take 450 mg of lithium, generic. I take two in the am and three in the pm. I don't know what my lithium level is in my blood but I usually run middle to low level. I get my meds from the VA because I am a veteran so the brand is usually generic. The lithium has caused my thyroid to not work. I also have an enlarged liver and spleen and they don't know if it is from taking meds for so long or because I use to drink alot, recovering alcoholic four years now. So it is good to have your liver enzymes checked periodically.
