Hi,
Well after giving up last week on ECT after only two unilateral treatments I've now gone back to my original plan of taking Nardil for a month and then doing a switch to Seroxat. I'm doing this as the Seroxat seemed to work better before after taking Nardil but I'm worried that it won't.
Anyway, I feel absolutely awful on Nardil and it's been a week now, my mum commented on the fact that my speech is slurred, my concentration is crap, when I walk down the road I sort of stagger at times like I'm drunk and I feel really depressed. The only good thing about it is that I feel very relaxed but almost to the point of being Zombified.
Why oh why do antidepressants not work for me when they used to and seem to make me just as depressed but with different symptoms? I thought anti equalled opposite to not for.
I know this is only an experiment anyway and I don't intend staying on this drug for longer than a month but has anyone else had these symptoms on Nardil?

Hi Denise,
What dosage did you start at? I've always started low with Nardil and built up fairly slowly. I know how painful that is because the medication just will not work until you get up to the therapeutic dose and then wait three or four weeks. That's the way it is for me, anyway. I've never really had much for side effects while starting at a low dose. That is the main problem with most antidepressant medications, building up then having to wait for weeks. I'm sure this is why a lot of meds don't work; inadequate trials.
Good luck,
Jedi

Denise I am looking into ECT. Why did you stop. What was your experience with it? Have you tried rTMS? Thanks!

Jedi,
Ok, yes thanks I might bear that in mind, I went straight onto 90mg which might have been a bit too much to start off with. It's just that I'm impatient to get better.
All the best.........Denise

Ravenstorm,
I stopped because I didn't feel like it was helping, mindyou I only had two treatments which I'm told wastn't enough.
If you do have it then have High Dose Unilateral as this causes less memory problems than Bilateral. I guess you already know that though.

Yes you need much more than two sessions. So you didn't have any bad side effects? I'm surprised you didn't try it a bit longer after going to all the effort. It takes an AD up to four to six weeks. . .you could probably get quite a bit of ECT done in that time frame!
Good luck to you on the Nardil, hope it improves
