I understand the worry for serotonin syndrom, but it makes sense that tryptophan increases serotonin levels, whereas SSRIs utilize the serotonin that is available.
Seems that a SSRI would be pointless to somebody who is serotonin deficient.Anyone trying/tried it? What milligrams/grams of tryptophan?

In reply to anyone try augmenting their SSRI with TRYPTOPHAN,, posted by qbsbrown on August 19, 2005, at 23:51:07
Hi, sorry it took so long for me to write!
i started augumemting my prozac with i-2 capsules of l-tryptophan 2 month's ago.
each capsule is 500mgs., i get it at the health food store, it is distributed by FTH pharmacuticuls. i agree, if you are serotonin
deficient, as i know i am being alcoholic and having ocd, you would, theoretically, need a boost for your ssri'!! you can also try eating more banana's and cashews, one handful of cashews has about 300 mgs. trytophan. i sleep better, and i seem to feel better overall, and have my doctors permission to use trytophan with 20 mgs. prozac!! good luck...john
