Here I am sitting at my computer in the wee hours instead of asleep in bed. This is my 2nd day of 150 mg Wellbutrin SR added to 80 mg Prozac and 10 mg Abilify, and I can't sleep. I had insomnia before, but this is twice as bad. Do I tough it out or call the pdoc for yet another med? I had a relatively good day today and I'm hoping it was from the Wellbutrin.

What time of day did you take your dose of Welbutrin?
Sometimes extended release meds can last just TOO long. Did you ever take the plain 100mg regular release Welbutrin?

Did you ever have this problem with regular release? I know I couldn't take sustained release Ritalin because it kicked in like 12 hours after I took it - in the middle of the night.
Also, did you drink any extra caffeine with the Welbutrin? I had a REALLY big problem with Welbutrin if I had just one extra cup of coffee, weird - huh?

I take 1.25mgs Abilify and 150mgs of Wellbutrin XL. I also take 100mgs Seroquel. I take everything before I go to bed and sleep like a baby with the most vivid dreams I've ever had although it doesn't matter when I take it because this combination doesn't have me stimulated at all. Just a suggestion, but ask your doc about adding a low dose of Seroquel.

That's an interesting question. I drink between 1 and 3 cups of coffee a day. Not exactly a coffeeholic, and I don't drink it past 5 PM. Yesterday I had 3; the day before (the first day @ 150 mg. Wellbutrin) I had just 1. I like my coffee and don't want to cut back. It gives me a tiny boost.
Thanks

I think you need to talk to your doc for advice.

The coffee thing was just a thought - I notice a big difference in my insomnia between having 1 cup of coffee and 3... weird, huh?

Ilene, All of the meds have a stimulating effect no wonder you can't sleep. Prozac gave me panic attacks and wellbutrin made my pdoc think I was manic which put me into the hospital. I've never taken Ambilify but that's supposed to be stimulating too. What you seem to need is something to relax you so you can sleep. Fondly, Phillipa

I must admit that I'm a caffeine 'hater' (I strongly believe that it can ruin a persons energy levels and stability), but from my experience caffeine simply should not be be necessary once you hit the right med/combo.
Plus, there are plenty of decaff varieties available if you MUST have that coffee (I've even found that a decaff coffee in the morning can actually 'fool' my brain into waking up).
Kind Regards.

I feel better today than I have in months. I'm hoping it's the new med combo, so I'm a little reluctant to want to change things. However, I think I have some leftover Sonata or Klonopin I can use in case I find myself waking up my husband with my fidgiting. I'll see how I do tonight, before calling my pdoc.
Thanks,
I.

I would sometimes take Melatonin at night to be sure of sleep.
One weird thing - sometimes with Wellbutrin I'd wake after 5.00 hours feeling completely refreshed.

Whew... all three of those meds gave me insomnia. If it was myself, I would ask my doctor for a sleep med. Perhaps Seroquel, like TomG suggested?

I called my pdoc after another night of all-of-a-sudden on-like-a-light-bulb. She said what a lot of you said--my meds were stimulating. She didn't want to prescribe another drug, but ended up saying she would call in trazodone to my pharmacy. She said this kind of insomnia is hard to deal with.
Thanks for the advice.
