Social anxiety flared up again today, as per usual. Some of the classic signs:
* Accelerated Heart Rate
* Flushing of Face
* Ears turning RedAll this because of a disagreement with an individual. So petrified was I to speak my mind, for fear of embarassment at a halting voice, that I kept to myself, all the while knowing that silence, while not as painful in the "acute" sense, would cost later in a non-social anxiety settings. More unnecessary busy work, all because I can't speak up.
Having tried the gamut of SSRIs, sampled Provigil and amilsulpride, eagerly awaiting both Cymbalta and Pregabalin's release to no avail, I think there is little choice but Nardil.
I have a single friend, haven't spoken, shall we say, suggestively to a girl literally since 2001, and would like to enjoy life, rather than engage in anxious hermitage.
So, I'm going to call around and see if I can't find a pdoc who will consider MAOIs (in the US). Wish me luck.
Also, for those of you who use Nardil and exercise relatively frequently, how does Nardil effect your ability to to both cardio and resistance training? And another thing, if Nardil works, will posting to PBabble most likely be the furthest thing from my mind?

Hi, the last pdoc I met said "MAOI? Piece of cake, in the US they eat tones of them".

> /ixusThat's encouraging. After all, it seems one "has to" attempt the serotonin gauntlet before even mentioning an MAOI, probably as it should be. I was encouraged when during one study a doc mentioned, "Yes, I had a patient, a women, who was nearly housebound. On Nardil, she opened up, like a flower." I don't mean to sound blubbery about Nardil, but it definitely registered.

Hi aabag,
Yes Nardil is the gold standard for both social anxiety and treatment resistant atypical depression. You are correct in that almost every PDOC will exhaust the SSRI's and some the tricyclics as well before prescribing a MAOI. If I were you I would document my previous drug trials with pharmacy records so the new PDOC doesn't think he/she must try another three combinations before giving you what works. I use 75mg to 90mg of Nardil plus 1mg of clonazepam daily to control my social and generalized anxiety and my atypical depression.
It's nice to be able to talk with people and not always be worrying about what they think of you. I would always have to wipe my hand before I shook someones hand so as not to expose them to the sweaty palm(yech). Nardil works for most people even when the other drugs don't touch it.
Most PDOCs, I think, want to be working with a pretty stable person when they prescribe a MAOI. I know people that can't keep track of their meds from one day to the next. This makes for a very high risk patient. It tends to look bad for the PDOC when a patient eats the wrong food or takes the wrong med with a MAOI. These reactions can be fatal. There is pretty much nothing I can take, over the counter, for a cold or cough. When you ask for codeine at the doctors, they just figure you're a drug seeker. I've had very experienced MDs tell me that codeine and Nardil would kill me. And most(all) doctors do not like to be told they are wrong.
One PDOC made me suffer through nine months of trials and never would prescribe Nardil. Sounds like a good idea to call ahead first to weed out a doc if he is completely anti-MAOI.
Good Luck and Be Well,
Jedi

I think your in a specfic area,let me tell u the state im in i went through 3 docs before i found one that i had to pract beg for it.Each docter was dead set aganist using it.
Also i tried to switch current doc twice due to unsatisfaction and the numerous docs i screened would not even work would maois they would have taken me off to put me on one of they cherished favorites like ablify or lamictal,docs love these meds,and their sales people for em.
I also have a friend in another state who after i informed her about maois she was very anxious to try one.
She gave up comtply as she said it was a lost cause two different docs totaly blew her off to the mention of maois.

Well, I won't likely give up if two doctors reject the notion. I suppose it takes a doctor, who, one way or another, has seen Nardil function well and can appreciate that fact. Until I find a physician who will consider a Nardil prescription an acceptable risk, I'll trial this CES device which arrived recently. Who knows?

I had trouble finding a pdoc to prescribe me Nardil but when I decided to try my gp, he prescribed pretty easily. I think it all just depends on the personality of the doctor. Good luck!

I also initially got my Nardil from my general practitioner doc. Just make sure you educate yourself on the issues, as my doc didn't say a word about diet restrictions. I don't think he completely knew what he was giving me. Good thing I did.

I also held out hope for Ocinaplon as a possible treatment, and still do, although its waning. Ocinaplon's on hold for at least a while, if not permanently. And if so, its probably 5 years for another viable candidate from Dov unless, by some "miracle", this recent issue is overcome.
This is the end of the thread.
