Tardive Akathisia symptoms sensitivities to Meds

Posted by Pippi on August 21, 2005, at 12:33:23

Desperately looking for a doctor who works with patients with tardive akathisia and tardive distonia symptoms. The complication is a serious sensitivity to many of the meds that caused the problem and also to those that may help.
I'm a Toronto resident but willing to travel to the U.S. for help. Need help fast as symptoms are becoming progressively worse.

Hi Pippi,

Welcome to p-babble :-)

Tell us more......

Which drug caused the tardive dystonia?
Which meds have you used to treat it?

I don't know whether you'll find any doctors here... but you will get a lot of support and advice.

Kind regards

~Ed

One organisation that I've heard of is called We Move at http://www.wemove.org/ They may have more information

If you search the campus directory at UCLA for "Wirshing" you will get information for Drs Donna and William Wirshing. Keep in mind these are busy people who work in several administrations, but they are experts in TD and they may be able to direct you to someone who can help

Other sites that I dont know if they are peer reviewed or not are

http://www.tardivedystonia.org/

There is a peer reviewed society mostly for doctors

http://www.movementdisorders.org/

I hope this helps you and I'm sorry to hear that you have developed these symptoms. Meanwhile pressure your own doctor if you are seeing one at the moment to try any of the usual protocols for TD.

cheers and feel better

hello there, chemist here...it occurs to me that mention has been made before of several excellent facilities in, shall we say, your neck of the woods...

search the archives for posts by Larry Hoover: if i recall, ample resources abound in the Toronto area and might very well spare you a lengthy journey southward...

should you need any assistance getting your ducks in a row, feel free to babblemail and we will see if your condition and my insights (?) are, indeed, worth investigating further....all the best, chemist
