Hi, there - welcome to Babble. I started Topamax in January and this med made me really tired during the day but unable to sleep at night. I didn't have any problem with my throat but it did give me an upset tummy at first. Could it be like an acid reflux feeling?
It all kind of settled down after a few weeks.
I'm going to redirect this to the main medication board, OK?
It's nice to meet you!

As I asked in a previous post what is the topamax for. All the adds say it's for migraines and that's all. Fondly, phillipa

My p-doc prescribes Topamax for me at a low dose (at the moment, 75mg/day ) as a mood stabilizer for my bipolar2. When I am hypomanic, as happens several times a year following what I've been tricked into thinking is a Good Mood, I become really irritable, angry, and tend to think I can do just about anything better than anyone, especially anyone I am currently working for. Which is partly why I am not working LOL. You can only tell your boss he/she is a flaming idiot once in a career, particularly if you are working an entry level position...
It's mainly prescribed at much higher doses (400mg/day) as an anticonvulsant, and recently has been approved in the UK as a treatment for migraine. (Works for me in this manner as well - yahoo!)

So migraines is a new use. All the magazines advertise it for that but they give no other uses. Probably afraid if readers saw it was a mood stabalizer no one would take it. I hate pharmacitical ads! Fondly, Phillipa

Me too. It's bad enough to go in a doctor's office and see the pens, pads, magnets, etc. everywhere for the latest and greatest drugs. That's just the tip of the iceberg. Even the dentist I worked for was constantly being shmoozed by a pharmeceutical rep for an antibiotic used for treating gum disease. Good product and great results should be enough. But I realize it's all about $money$.
