I'm thinking of trying a norepinephrine-targeting med next. I was on Effexor briefly years ago and tolerated it well. (Coming off was not fun.)
Is Strattera more powerful at blocking NE reuptake?
Thanks for any info.

I would definately think so. Effexor has a stronger effect on the serotonin uptake system.
Wereas Straterra only affects norepinephrine. If you just want a norepinephrine drug then try straterra, reboxetine, desipramine, nortryptaline, etc.

Hi
May I ask why you want try an NARI? They can be quite energising for some folk.

I've tried SSRIs and Wellbutrin, no help. Caffeine helps (with great limitations). Ritalin helped but tolerance developed quickly and there's that crash afterward. I had no problem with the Effexor being "energizing".
I see a new pdoc this week, and I don't know what she's willing to prescribe.
You're on a noradrenergic, aren't you, Meri?

Yep I'm on reboxetine, which isn't available in the states - I live in the UK. I'm finding it great for anixety and panic and fairly good for depression too. I also seem to have better self esteem on it too, I don't know why!
Anyway its just that some people haven't had such a good time on NARIs thats all. I think they are good for atypical depressives like myself as they are more energising and I found that celexa just sucked all life out of me.
I think stattera is a more potent NARI than effexor. Effexor from what I understand is only a moderately effective reuptake inhibitor of noradrenaline at high doses, while it reuptakes sertonin very well at all doses.
Anyway good luck!
take care
Meri
