Lithium carbonate and lithium citrate

Posted by Squiggles on August 8, 2005, at 12:11:44

I asked a pharmacist about the side
effect that has me running to the loo
every day, and she was really nice
and surprisingly helpful.

She asked about my other drugs, whether
perhaps another condition was present,
and suggested that I take *lithium citrate*
instead.

I'm going to mention this to my dr.
because if it works it will certainly
be better than a 20-year overhall of
a synchronized drug soup, with all the
risks of a new drug not working.

In the meantime I will try Keopectate and
Tubs.

Wish me luck.

Try using metamucil (psyllium). I think you have to use it at least 1/2 hour before or at least 3 hours after your dose, otherwise it will absorb the lithium. It was a life saver for me!

Thanks Diane for your advice. I'll try that.
Some of these side effects can be downright
humiliating.

For me, yes -- i slept every couple of hours
in the beginning; infact i was wondering if
i was not overdosed -- but i did get used to
it and got into a regular sleep cycle gradually.

As for nausea - i have never had nausea on
lithium but it is common; possibly each person
has their weak point - mine seems to have
been my thyroid. If you also get tremor
though, maybe that means it is a bit too high
for you at least at this stage.
