Hi,
I'm just wondering whether trileptal can help depression as well as mania??

I believe it does help with depression. I was just taking lamictal and prozac for depression and it was not working. I have the highs too, since i have bp2, but since i added trileptal, i have not had a hypomania episode nor a major depressive episode. I used to go into major depression about once or twice a month, to a point where i didnt want to live. But I dont have that now. I would give it a try if i were you.

I'm trying trileptal with Lithium... 600 mg of Trileptal and 1200 mg of Lithium.. my only concern is that the Trileptal maybe sedating.. I hate that sedating feeling.. do you take yours all at night or spit the dose? How does the sedation affect u?

Hi, I take 300mg in the am and 300mg at night. It does make me fall asleep at night quick and it does make me groggy in the morning, but a cup of coffee usually takes care of that. So, its really not too bad!!!

> bpsMy ER doc (when I was admitted by my dad and sister because they were convinced I needed to get into a hospital, even though I had not done anything or was even suicidal whatsoever) discharged me within an hour.
Knowing I had been well-versed in psychopharmacology, he suggested I look into Trileptal for mood disorder with my doc (Nurse Practioner I see as an outpatient).
I mentioned it to my N.P., but he goes, "oh, that's generally used for pediatric patients... Lithium is more preferred in your situtation."
I'm not sure if this is because it's labeled for children only (?) or what, but the ER doc told me it's his pet drug for bipolar (he didn't use that term, but I think we all figure out each psychiatrist has a pet med for each disorder).
