I have never taken this med, I take Restoril 30mg at night.
I hardly ever hear anyone talk about this med at all.
Before 1993 with the release of Ambien, it was on the frount cover of Time Magazine i belive in 1991.
I have heard it is very rapid acting, but actually side effects it wears off so quick it causes anxiety during day.
I belive it was the most Prescibed sleeping pill in the EARLY 90's and late 80's. According to records, old president bush senior threw up in the Japan's Mininister's lap becuase he used it to treat Jet Lag.
I never hear harly every today of it at all.

Matt, I don't believe it's available anymore but I could be wrong. Very bad side effects. Fondly, Phillipa

yes it is still prescribed in the US. I have a few autistic clients who take it for sleep.

Halcion was the benzo that William Styron thought tipped him into depression. He wrote about it in Darkness Visible, I think. Nothing helped him except hospitalisation and the passage of time.

Still is used. From what I know of it, it's mainly in clinical settings and not long term except in rare cases these days. It can put one in a wicked zombie like state.

yea i've heard that people have lasted out and gone crazy on it. I guess that is somewhat of a pull back.
I take Restoril 30mg... i took it 30min ago, i feel somewhat mellowed and sleepy but sometimes its to'gentle'.
Anyways, i dont have any plans on going on Halcion.

It's used for sedation for dental procedures. i had it last year for dental surgery and it worked very well- even on an empty stomach i wasn't sick.
i'm very apprehensive usually but after taking i think 5mg- maybe 2mg- i was almost happy to be there and didn't need the general anethesia with it.
i had to have someone drive me home but i didn't feel very groggy. It's good for sedation. i've heard that it works for sleep also.
Take care,
kerria

I have been taking Halcion (triazalam)since it came out to control major cronic sleep disorder .Usually three or four .25mgs per nightwhen I start devoloping a tolerance above that dosage ,I take tine off and restart at the smaller dosages and over a four or five month piriod hit my own established max and abstain again/start again. No side effects befors Halcion I had literally no control over my sleep patterns pr lack thereof , thus failing at nealy everything I tried .

I use Halcion for insomnia sometimes. It has a half life of 2-4 hours, and so produces less hangover effect in the morning than the other benzos. I've never had any problems with Halcion- no weird side effects, and no need to increase the .125mg dosage I use. I have heard horror stories from other people about Halcion, but in my own experience it has been a helpful med.

What sorts of horror stories?
Thanks.

> - ScottHi Scott,
Well, when my former psychiatrist first suggested Halcion, she said I shouldn't be worried about stories about Halcion that sound like National Inquirer headlines, e.g. "I killed my mother-in-law when I was on Halcion". My current psychiatrist says that he has heard stories like, "I took Halcion one night and when I woke up two days later I was in an airport in Alaska and married to someone I didn't know." Both of my pdocs said that Halcion was not for everyone, but that it had gotten a bad reputation it did not deserve.

Personally, I don't think Halcion's side effects are much different to those of the other short-acting benzodiazepine hypnotics. All have been associated with bizzare psychiatric reactions.

my daughter has the same sleep disorder .I wonder what would be less risky for her . She is 16 and I am not assured that she can do what I do and not get dependent.I use halcion because my vocation requires I sleep and awake on demand .I do not have the luxery of knowing what hours I can sleep or when . This complicates a per existing sleep disorder I have hade for over fifty years. My daughter lives a normal life. Also I would be concerned about the disipline of making sure she is in bed when it hits .I have screwed up a few times and woke up face down on my computer .God forbid if I smoked and woke up dead .Like I said , I use halcion at the interment dosage I do because of extradodinary circumstances . I would never suggest it to anyone else unless they had a working knowledge of addiction medicine and work in the buisness as I do , for that matter .

> ~edThe only thing that happened to me when I took Halcion is that I never made it to bed in time. I'd take it, not feel a thing for half an hour and then 8 hours later wake up in the middle of the living room floor where I'd slept all night with no memory of falling asleep.

Welcome to the weird world of ultra short-acting benzodiazepines!
