Scott/SLS, are you here?

Scott,

Hi. I was wondering whether you ever took Nomifensine during the brief time it was available? I remember it was marketed some time in the mid to late eighties and was then withdrawn for good, but I can't remember why. I vaguely remember something about it causing hyperpyrexia.

I tried nomifensine (Merital) shortly after it was approved in 1985. I responded magically to it, but for only three days or so. This is the same pattern of response that tricyclics produce for me. The drug was withdrawn from market by the manufacturer due to reports of incidences of hemolytic anemia. It was a pretty clean drug. I wish it were still available. I would have liked to have combined it with an MAOI. Nomifensine is a potent dopamine and norepinephrine reuptake inhibitor.

Hi Scott,
Thank you for your reply. I never had the chance to try Nomifensine, and I was sorry that it was withdrawn. I wonder what percentage of patients actually developed hemolytic anemia. Later, when Wellbutrin was marketed, withdrawn, and marketed again, I thought that Nomifensine might make a come-back, but it never did. I wonder whether there is any research being done on Nomifensine anywhere. I think I'll look it up.

Sarah
