Hi-
Does anyone have a doctor is Chicago that has experience prescribing Provigil? I'd like to get a second opinion.
I'm new to the group so first, Hi and nice to be here. I wastaking Lex and Wel for Depression but the Lex 20 mg was making me feel like "I was never really awake" lethargic, and dragging. I asked my doctor about Provigil but since he wasn't very familiar with it and there is no long term data, he didn't want to prescribe it to me and instead cut my lex down to 10 Mg. This has helped a littled but afte reading so many wonderful testimonials about Provigil, I still want to try it.

Best thing since sliced bread. Ha Ha Ha. Seriously though...Provigil has been awesome for me. The first few weeks I was ready to give it up but once I got used to it it gave me the get up and go I needed without the anxiety that comes with taking stimulants. I've just recently lost the approval of my insurance company for paying for it and it is really expensive. I've taken it for over a year and all of a sudden the insurance won't pay for it. I'm actually going to go have a sleep study done to see if I can get it covered again. Why not ask your doc if you could just try it out based on what you have heard from other people here. Is your doc a P-doc? If not you might want to try another doctor. It seems like most psychiatrists are up to date on Provigil and pretty comfortable with it.

I can make a recommendation towards the most advanced, cutting edge, and agressive psychopharmacologists in the city. And I'm not trying to be a braggart here either. I was lucky to finally get there myself. Only problem is that I don't want to give out an email address here, and I have no idea how babble email works.
I'll try to figure it out right now.

First, Thanks to Mr. Scott for pointing me toward some great Docs.
I think I'll need to find a General Provider though as opposed to a psychiatrist because my Blue Cross Blue Shield won't cover me for that.
Has anyones General Practicioner Doc prescribed them Provigil and can you provide me with their contact info as a ref.
Thanks,
J

Are you sure BCBS won't cover any psychiatrist, or just those guys. I know that particular group is expensive (I just got my bill ouch!) and I should have asked about that.
I've got more up my sleeve...having been depressed for ten years until recently I've become well acquainted with far too many of them! I know a few that definately work with BCBS.
You might want to go to bcbsil.com and log in to see your benefits. My girlfriend has an HMO and must see either a PCP or OB/GYN for a referral prior to working with a psychiatrist.

>Hi Mr. Scott, sorry to barge in but I can't resist this one... After a long and disjointed road I have just now started up with my first real p-pharm, who I think fits the above description and is the best choice I could have made, amongst those still taking new patients around here. It was a tie for awhile between two. My babblemail is turned on but as it would probably be simpler, could you please email me at the following weird but fully functional "disposable" email address, so I can run the names by you? Thanks so much in advance if you can...

Coincidentally, Provigil may well be of interest eventually in my case too, and I'm not thinking it would be a problem for this new doc, but great to have whatever info I can up front this time.

Provigil is in a BCBS tier of "prior authorization requested" med. Your doc should be familiar with the policy procedure this takes. Depending on your policy this may mean a certain dx criteria or succession of prior med prescription.
