I was diagnosed with fibromyalgia last week. The doctor wants to treat it with trazodone. He said it's an older AD but it is supposed to be helpful with pain/body aches as well (and sleep).
I am concerned because Lexapro completely wigged me out and put me into the hospital ( I felt like I was on an acid trip!). I read that this stuff also touches seratonin (which I think is a big no no for me).
Any ideas if this would also cause me to freak out??

Spriggy,
Well, I've taken it and it was NOT a favorite of mine. Just a little bit will knock you out and may even cause a hang over in the morning. I used to break a pill into 1/4 or less. Sorry, can't remember the exact mg.
I hate to say it, but Elavil a TCA is often used in low doses for pain, sleep, etc. I didn't like it either but it is old, cheap, and works well for some people. I can't handle SSRIs either.
Just remembered! I saw something negative in the press in the last week about using Trazadone for sleeping. Might want to Google it!
Hugs,
MidnightBlue

I tried Trazadone, and lasted only a few nights. It was not for me. I only took 25mg about an hour or so before bed, but I woke up feeling despondent and in a drugged fog in the morning. The sluggish, drugged out feeling lasted until about noon. It did help me sleep though.

Elavil is often used. Now that will make you sleep! But I would take it over Trazadone any day.
Muscle relaxants such as cylobenzaprine (Cycloflex, Flexeril)are also often used.
Here is a site where clinical trial for fibromyalgia are listed: http://clinicaltrials.gov/ct/gui/action/FindCondition?ui=D005356&recruiting=true
I wonder if Neurontin would help?
So how did they finally diagnose you Spriggy?
