Since I have a lot of anxiety, my Pdoc suggested I try Effexor instead of Wellbutrin. He feels the Wellbutrin 150mg. may be contributing to the anxiety. I take 900mg now of Trileptal and 15mg of Buspar a day. I love the antidepressant effects of Wellbutrin and the fact that I feel a little high. But maybe that's the problem.
Anyone think Effexor is better for anxiety for bipolar? I really want to find the right med combo.

Effexor made me hypomanic. Did your pdoc mention trying Cymbalta?

just being honest here, but Effexor was not good for my anxiety. However I'm not diagnosed BP either. But good luck anyway. Cymbalta works similar to Effexor but may not give you necessarily the same side effects

Just my opinion, but I would favor one of the atypical antipsychotics (stupid they name them that way) over effexor. My doc won't hardly prescribe effexor anymore. I guess he has had too many problems with it and not enough success to justify it.
I think the APs would work nicely with the wellbutrin and not only boost its effectiveness, but smooth it out and calm down the anxiety too. Seroquel or zyprexa would be my two top choices for your situation. Don't let these meds scare you. They'll do a whole lot more for you than effexor, but that is just one opinion.
