Seems my old pdoc thought I was manic and gave me seroquel and sent me to the hospital. This was on l50mg after a week. I don't think I was though. Fondly, Phillipa

I went on 100mg Wellbutrin along with my 75mg Effexor and was expecting all kinds of side effects but all I've noticed is:
- more sweatiness (increases the sweatiness already experiencing from Effexor);
- short-term emotional flatness.

And that's about it. After, what, two weeks now? maybe three? I'm feeling better than with just the Effexor. It's helped with the apathy, improved my mood and decreased the anxiety.

It made me dizzy, and thirsty for the first few days. After about three months, I started to get increasingly more and more anxious. I have to stop taking it, because it was bringing on more mania to my BPII phase. I swear I had two personalities! They would appear within minutes of each other! It drove my husband and my children crazy. -L

I took 300 mg of Wellbutrin several years ago. Here's what I've experienced: higher resting heart rate, weight loss, a volatile temper, constipation, and agitation.

Wellbutrin just didn't work for me. My doctor increased my doseage from 150 mg to 300 mg, but I was still depressed. My depression was in a different form; mainly, anger and frustration.

first 100mg pill yesterday, and so far so good (meaning no freaky side effects yet). So, hopefully I will be able to tolerate it, and it will help me get over the last hump of depression that just won't let up not matter what I do :-(.

That's a really good sign as 100 mg. is not an insignificant amount to start with. I have two good friends who take Wellbutrin and it has been a life saver for both of them. They each had issues with anxiety as well but were able to tolerate it.

Hi T!

Tell us how it goes :-) I imagine you'll only need a low dose since you're also on nort. Oh, are you still on nort?

Hi Ed!

Yes, I am still on the nort. I think I am experiencing some start-up side effects from the Wellbutrin after all (seem to have surfaced on day 3). I feel a bit agitated and nervous, yet at the same time, I feel kind of low and weepy. Maybe I am just not used to experiencing a full range of emotions, particularly such strong emotions (both negative and positive). Can it happen that a person might feel a bit worse before the med really kicks in to make them feel better? I am a bit scared that I will never be me again - UGH!!! Sorry to be a downer :-(

Best to you, Ed.

Hi T,

>Can it happen that a person might feel a bit worse before the med really kicks in to make them feel better?

Yes, I'm afraid so. Don't increase the dose until all the start up side effects have passed. If the start up side effects don't decrease within a few weeks, you could try a different treatment.

>I am a bit scared that I will never be me again.........

You will :-)

PS. There has been some concern about the risk of seizures when combining Wellbutrin with other ADs, especially TCAs. It would be a good idea to keep the Wellbutrin dose low. Do you drive?

Ed,
What if she decreased the amount she's taking now to 50 mg.? 100 mg. is kind of a lot to start on, isn't it? I think when I tried it a few years ago, I started on 50 mg.

I think it's a good idea if there's a suitable tablet (in Canada). It only comes in 150mg SR tablets here and you can't cut them in half! Not much opportunity for starting on a low dose!

PS. RE duloxetine (Cymbalta, Yentreve). In the UK, the starting dose for stress incontinence is 80mg a day! Do they WANT people to have bad side effects lol?

Good point. Wow, that's a really high dosage of Cymbalta. I had horrible side effects on 10 mg. I can't even imagine how I would have reacted to 80 mg. Honestly, they would have had to rush me to a hospital.

Thanks Ed and Kara. I am going to stick it out at 100mg and see how it goes. I think 100mg is the lowest does available for the SR version, which is what the pdoc prescribed. If the agitation gets too bad, I have Xanax that I can take, so it's not a big deal. I had raised the possibility of seizures with the pdoc since I am taking both nort and wellbutrin, but he said at the doses I am taking and the fact that I don't have history of seizures, it is not a big concern. I so hope that I respond well to the Wellbutrin. I am getting frustrated with false starts (feel like I am having a good response, only to have it drop off to a partial response). UGH!! I am becoming a whiner :-( I just want to be myself again, and I don't think that is too much to ask. Oh well, I will try to maintain a positive attitude.

Take care you two.

That's not too much to ask!!! Maybe you're having a temporary downturn as a result of going off of the Celexa. Do you think it's possible it was doing more for you than you thought?
