If you are looking for hope

Posted by Mike634 on May 19, 2005, at 19:58:11

Hi people,
I discovered this place last summer when things were really bad - you guys were great with advice and support. I had bipolar depression - SLS was very helpfull, among others. Well, after a three year episode, and 6/last 8 years basically disabled, I am practically fully recovered. With Lithium as my base, along with a bit (2.5) of zyprexa and 200 lamicatal, - effexor was added (112.5) and that did it. I feel fine, and I am ready to use my BS degree and pick up my life again.
There were no shortcuts, - many many medication trials - nothing would work, - but then gradually, things came together. Countless nights out of control, crying, perservering through it all, thinking I would never be cured. I worked as a bike courier for years cause it was the only thing I could do, coming home every night in a painfull depression. But its over. You just have to hang in there and make it through the day sometimes, but have faith - there is a solution. -Mike634

Yeah I was massively depressed, Bipolar + anxiety + ADD, but after finding the right meds I have been 100% for quite a while.

Which is why you probably havn't seen me around.

Honestly, what took many years probably could have taken months if I had found the right doctor much earlier. Or now that the existance of Adult ADD is accepted as fact, instead of being denied outright.

Thanks, Mike. It does help a lot to read about success stories!

Cybercafe, what medications ended up working for you?

Parnate i am still on and a little clonazepam.

I was rapid cycling bipolar for years, then took zyprexa for a few months, switched to very low dose aripiprazole for a few months, and then stopped taking any antipsychotics. Been stable for ... 1 year without any mood stabilizers? Also have been taking ritalin for ADD. So I've been on ritalin and parnate with no mood stabilizer. Why this hasn't made me euphoric (parnate) and psychotic (ritalin), I don't know.
I suppose I've reset my seizure threshold or something.

That's really interesting - and very strange - but I"m glad it's working for you!
