So what did you think of your new pdoc? What did your husband think? You've waited a long time, I'm glad that your new pdoc had ideas for you. Sorry, I've never taked Trileptal, but I know a lot of people on this board have so you should get a lot of feedback on that. Let me know if it works for you.
Goodluck,

Hello, well, I like the pdoc. he is the first one that has ever been so thorough. He spent over an hour with us and seemed like a very good pdoc. I am glad I found him. He seems to think I do have BP2 and that is what i thought as well (as you know) I am not sure exactly what my husband thought, but I think he understands a little more about things now. He had never been to a pdoc ever, so im sure that had to be interesting for him. Plus, my pdoc suggested we may want to think of marital councilling to get past what happened during my hypomania episode. (which might be a good thing) So, all went well. Hopefully this new drug will work for me. (keeping my toes and fingers crossed)
Thanks for caring!!!!

Glad to hear things went well for you. How high a dose did he put you on? I took l50mg for mood and sleep and didn't have any side effects. It's supposed to be a cleaner Tegretol. One less oxygen atom I think. Fondly, Phillipa

I currently take 750 mgs and I love it. (I'm borderline and maybe bipolar II) It has completely eliminated my "dysphoric mania"/severe anger issues. Last year I was on 1200 mgs, but had to lower the dose due to cognitive side effects. Don't titrate up too quickly or you'll be a zombie - go slow, and let the drug gradually do its thing.

I just read your post, and wanted to pipe in to say that my daughter and I are both bipolar II. She has just added Trileptal to her medication list :)!! I posted above asking about it as well, because I don't know much about it either. She is starting out at 75mg per night. She also takes Topamax, Wellbutrin and Adderall XR. (The Topomax alone doesn't stabilize her moods like it does mine. I take Zoloft along with Topomax, and I think that works well for me) That seems like too much medication to me, but I'm sure when she goes back to the doctor we will find out what the next step will be. The nurse told me that we should be able to tell if the med is working within three or four days. Tonight is her first dose. She is 17. Let me know what you think about the Trileptal. -L

It's worked the best for me. Depakote made me fat. Lamictal gave me a rash (and possibly activated me a little -- I was starting to wonder about the time the rash started and I had to quit). I really haven't had any side-effect problems with Trilep, but I'm taking a pretty low dose: 450mg (150 in the morning and 300 in the evening).

I dont know what dose I am starting at, dropped off prescription today and will pick it up tomorrow. He didnt really go over that with me, except to say he was going to start me at like 1 pill (not sure of mg) and increase it until i am taking 2 in the am and 2 in the pm. he did keep me on lamictal 300mg at night, prozac 20mg and my klonopin. he wants to see me back in 3 weeks. I will let you guys know what mg i am on tomorrow.
thanks everyone..
hugs to all.

Nope, one oxygen atom added hence the prefix Oxy.

The pills come in 150 mg so that's your starting dose.

> SWell the lowest dose is 150 mg so it means you will be starting on that. :-) You won't feel any effect from that dosage, but once you get up to 450 you will. Take it at bedtime as it will make you a little dizzy at first, but it will go away.
I hope it works for you as well. I think it will.

I've had similar experiences Woolav. I take 450mg at night. Why do you split it up? Have you ever tried 300mg?

I dont know why my pdoc suggested splitting the doses. He said take 2 pills in the morning and 2 at night. Now, if he starts me at 150mg, I wonder how fast i will titalate up. I dont want to be a walking zombie during the day, so I will be mad if that happens. I take lamictal too, at night, because it knocks me out. And in the morning I take prozac and klonopin. Im just keeping my fingers crossed right now...
Thanks

was on 600mg trileptal for more than a year--no side effects, worked great until I went up to 900 then developed sweating episodes. Back down to 600. All doses were 2x day.
Went off it. Now am on Lamictal, 50mg. Trileptal was a lifesaver. I thought it wasn't working any more but when I went off it I was not nearly so serene and relaxed. If Lamictal doesn't work will go back on Trileptal. Good luck with it.

The doses are generally split because Trileptal has a short-half life .. there is no long-acting or extended-release version to keep a steady dose in your bloodstream, so it requires dose splitting.
This was my titration: 75 mgs 2x a day for one week, 150 mgs 2x a day for two weeks, 300 mgs 2x a day for two weeks, etc.

What dose on your on now?Have you ever missed a dose? I did one night and it felt like I had sand all over my hands (but didn't) the next day; like they were desperate for lotion but weren't dry to touch. It was odddddd.

Katia, sounds like 50mg of lamictal is a very low dose. Are you going to increase it? I couldnt imagine that low of a dose working for me. the 300mg that i am on, doesnt even work, i guess that why my doc is adding the trileptal.

if you're at 150 that sounds right. last year my pdoc started me on trileptal 300 twice a day. (long story why i'm off it) but it worked great for me. hope you have the same luck.

I was on 1200, but had to reduce the dose due to cognitive impairment. Currently I take 750 mgs.
I have skipped doses before - it makes me feel like my body is buzzing!

Yes, I know that body buzzing feeling. It's like a vibration all over; almost like hypomania??
