WELLBUTRIN CAN HELP ANXIETY?!!

Posted by dick hunt on May 10, 2005, at 19:50:01

Hey all...
I'm writing this cuz I've just had a pretty amazing breakthrough with my meds... For starters, I have dealt with severe depression and anxiety e.g.(Can't leave the house, many suicide attempts; many almost successful) ever since I was 13 (now 28). I've tried many drugs over the years and only ever had success with Nardil (had to stop after a year because of completely outrageous side-effects.) I have tried Wellbutrin on 4 separate occasions, and I was never able to take it for more than a couple of days because I felt like I was having the worst anxiety of my life. This time around I decided to try again because I hate the SSRI "mind numbing" and sexual SE. Again I had bad anxiety, but decided to stick it out...After 4 days, the agitation went away. Now, 2 weeks later... I am more relaxed than I was on Paxil or Nardil, but I have a lot of energy and motivation that I never had on any other med except adderall (whole other story)... On the SSRIs, I was a content zombie and I didn't have much to say because my mind was constipated! I think the WB helps my mind clear and relieves the anxiety at the same time! I can actually conversate with people now! I'm still only on 150mg XL/day going to 300/day in a week... I know everyone is different, but maybe some of you could benefit from WB if you can stick out the 1st 4 or 5 days...
LOVE TO ALL - Jonathan

Hey. that is great news! I think it shows that we should not count on just diagnosis, but on symptoms. Best wishes...just take it nice and slow. :-)

That's great! Keep posting your results. I only stuck it out for a week. I must still have a prescription around here somewhere. Fondly, Phillipa

I sometimes think that Wellbutrin is Glaxo Smith Klines modern day attempt to create a MAO type drug like Parnate without the food restrictions...I don't know but just a thoery(sp)
They both affect DA and NE. Anybody else out there ever considered something like this? BTW, AFAIK both ADs are GSK compounds!

Since you are doing good on 150 mg, do you think you should hold off the planned increase to 300 for the time being?

Congrats! It's great that you are feeling motivated and 'normal'(whatever that is) again.

I have found with most meds that there is a 'break in' period that can sometimes be horrendous, but if you stick it out, it gets dramatically better.

I've been on Wellbutrin for 8 years and it's been a good med for me. At various times I try adding something to it to decrease anxiety. For the past year and a half it's been Luvox and seems to be working. I still have depression every now and then, but the anxiety is at normal levels.
