I'm a week into starting Nortriptyline. All the ssri's and snri's have not worked (or worked and then quit, or caused too much anxiety or too much insomnia, etc etc etc.
How long should I expect it to be before I notice effects? Full effects?
And will the horrible totally dry mouth get any better?
What about sexual side effects?
Right now I'm only on 25mg of Nort along with 10 mg Celexa. My mouth is so dry now I can't imagine how I'll tolerate a therapeutic dosage. (my pdoc is switching me from Celexa to Nort gradually)
I'm experiencing terrible anxiety about nothing and my pdoc hopes the Nort will help with that since Effexor used to help. Any opinions?
Any help will be much appreciated.
Thanks,
Marsha

Hi,
I started to feel some antidepressant effect from nortriptyline within about 3 weeks or so. I have been bothered by dry mouth, particularly in the morning, but I have been drinking more water lately to deal with that side effect. That is really the only side effect that has been somewhat bothersome for me. The nortriptyline seems to be helping my anxiety, except around PMS time, then I need to take a bit of Xanax.
Hope it works for you and that you can find a way to deal with the dry mouth side effect so that you can get to what will be a therapeutic dose for you.
Take care,
Tamara

I took Nortrip for years, got up to 150 mg. per day. It caused weight gain and sometimes dry mouth. But it's good for sleeping, unlike SSRI's. I stopped because of the weight gain, got my weight back down, and now I take 25 mg Nortip every other day. It seems to be enough right now.

Did you take it for anxiety? Did you have an increase in anxiety when you first started it?
This is the end of the thread.
