I currently take Ativan 1mg 3X daily but not everyday
Ativan really doesnt have any special qualities, just plain anti-anxiety, i do belive it has anti-manic similar to klonopin but for me its defintly not as sedating.
I work fine with 1mg, no sedation or anything, i hardly really feel it thats what sometimes frustrating.
I taken 2mg at night one time i had to take 9mg during a major panic hit, it gradually calmed but it doesnt do a good job for panic in general.
I guess this is why its not really classified an anti-panic med.For social anixety, mmm Klonopin worked better, it "loosenes" me up in a place to talk, i feel more relieved and in mood. Ativan just makes me stand around, and not really say much.
I just wanted to hear from other people who have taken it and how it worked/works for you.

When I did take it it worked fine. But as I think of it the last time I was taking 5-6mg a day. That's a lot. Fondly, Phillipa

I thought it made me pretty hazy and forgetful, the most pro-amnesic one I've tried. But perhaps the dose I took was high.

I only take 0.5 3x a day---seems to take the edge off of anxiety some

>For me Ativan did exactly what it was supposed to. I could be myself without having to worry so much about my excessive anxieties. It never altered my mood the way Xanax does, nor did it cause sedation or memory loss at the recommended dose. I agree that it might not be enough to give some people the nudge to interact in social settings. Klonopin might work better, as it did for you...it seems to be the benzo of choice for treating social phobia for whatever reason. It seemed no different to me from the Ativan...aside from the fact that I became very aggressive towards a female friend while we were supposed to be watching a play. I will never touch a Klonopin again. I take Xanax XR now rather than Ativan...you don't get the high the way you do with the original formulation. I'm also not currently on an antidepressant, so I was looking for something a little stronger to hold me over until I start Nardil.

Ativan is my 2nd best benzo. It does not give sedation and minor euphoria like Xanax,or true depression like Clonazepam.
It just makes me anxiety- free, but not sociable very much, just a bit content and concentrating on myself or what I do.
Also it is good for sleep, and rapid acting (1 hour and you are there)
Only 2 drawbacks are the powerful amnestic effects and the dfficulty in tapering off after extended use (only Xanax is worse,so I use a longer acting BZ to taper)
My usual dose is 1mg twice a day>However, my fav. BZ is bromazepam.(See my message above).
