I've tried lamictal which did nothing for anxiety. What's the best one for anxiety? Pdoc wants me to try topamax. Suggestions? Thanks.

I would think that valproate would be a good choice.

Hi,
I agree with link, valproate is literature-proven to help anxiety.. My father takes lamictal and that helps with his anxiety.. that could be another option.. I think mood stabilizers in general are very good for anxiety.. they help 'smooth' things out.

Depakote seems to take the edge off of my anxiety.

>Depakote ER. I take 2000mg, primarily to even out my mood swings...initially I took it at night but found it hard to get up in the morning.

>I would say that it helps the most with my anger...it also seems to prevent recurrent episodes of severe depression. Lithium was more effective as far as treating my depressive symptoms, and Lamictal even more so. Depakote, as I already mentioned, has been the best as far as generalized anxiety. Lamictal was probably the most pro-social, because it was the least sedating and didn't cause any residual anxiety. Depakote has caused me to put on a considerable amount of weight and is the worst as far as fatigue.

I probably should have mentioned that, in retrospect, Lithium was overall the most effective mood stabilizer as far as actually keeping me STABLE.
