Hi everyone. This is my first post here. I have a problem. I went to a party at the beginning of March and someone gave me something... NOT GOOD! After that incident, my lungs felt very expanded and i always got a weird chemical taste in my mouth. I was also very "cloudy thinking" (it was hard to read clearly) and i was always drowsy. I slept ok.
As time went on, about four weeks, the chemical taste in my mouth faded and my lungs felt "normal" again. But after this happened I was not able to sleep! I also get a weird tingly feeling in my hands and legs and sometimes across my body.So clearly some form of drug withdrawl is leading me to not sleep.
As this was happening I started taking geodon to get to sleep. I started with 10mg for about four days, then had to move up to 20mg for a week. Now it takes 40 mg of geodon to get maybe 6 hours of sleep a night.
So i guess what is happening is as that unknown chemical/drug is leaving my body I am needing more geodon to sleep...
Anyways, one night i took Risperdal (the previous night i had taken 20 mg of geodon) and the risperdal made my heart race violently so i was rushed to the hospital. It was very scary situation. After that night I went back on geodon, and it has given me some sleep.
My P.Doc is the one who prescribed the geodon, he was telling me about seroquel, so i can get that if i want it.
I have taken geodon before ( I was on it for three months last year) and I was able to succesffully ween off of it, so i feel comfortable taking geodon.
But my normal doc told me about Lunesta...
Is it ok to take geodon one night, then take Lunesta the next night ? Also how effective will 3 mg of Lunesta be ? As i understand it Lunesta is for people with insomnia, I CAN'T SLEEP AT ALL without meds, so i'm not really your basic insomniac. So will Lunesta be enough to get me to sleep ? and is it safe to take Lunesta a night after i had taken 40 mg geodon the previous night. ?My situation is scary because i don't know what drug i was given and i don't know how much of it i was given, i just know it was in my system for four weeks... And it seems to be taking higher and higher doses of geodon to put me to sleep.
I can't wait for it to level of and decrease...
Then i will feel more in control and hopefully eventually ween of my geodon and be med free. But i was thinking of taking Lunesta instead of geodon, i also need to know if it is easy to stop taking Lunesta ? Do i need to ween off of lunesta or can i just stop taking it at anytime ?

I should also point out that whatever they gave me also made me twitch slightly, and i could feel this tugging feeling at the back of my brain.
It felt similar to geodon because of the twitching and not able to think clearly. But like i said i don't know how much, just that it stayed in me for four f*cking weeks!

Did you tell your doc about this drug? I would definitely make sure that your doc understands that your symtpoms are directly caused by an unknown drug. Tell your doc everything you can remember about that night, even if it doesn't seem important to you.
I'm sorry that you have had this terrifying experience. I have never taken Lunesta or Geodon, so I can't help you there. Seroquel probably won't help you (I'm on seroquel 200mg/day) unless you have significant anxiety or mental restlessness; it would probably knock you out and make you feel a little zombie-like. Although if your doc recommends you to try it in small doses (ie 12-50mg/day), it won't cause long-term effects; its half-life is only 6 hours.
Hang in there.

are you saying I need to have mental illness for seroquel to help me to sleep ? I have no psychoses, I'm just on geodon for sleeping. I will take seroquel for sleep, i heard that it was the most sedating...

No, you do not have to have mental illness for seroquel to help you sleep, but it may make you groggy all day long. If it keeps overly excited people from being too excited during the day; it can make a healthy people a bit sedated.

hi sadaiyappan,
welcome to the board! Sorry to hear about your sleep issues. For what it's worth, here is my advice.I would first try to investigate what someone gave you at that party. Was it a pill, an injection, a dissolvable tablet, asomething to smoke/inhale, etc? Can you call the people who gave or attended the party and ask for some honest information from them?
Talk to your doctor frankly about various possibilities so you can understand the true side effects of whatever drug it was.
I'm not a drug expert or connoisseur, but I believe there are very few drugs that would cause an immediate dependency (heroin, only?). Also, the half-life of most drugs is MUCH shorter than 4 weeks, so it's unlikely the drug itself was still in your system, unless you continued to ingest it or something that had interacted with it.
Is it possible that something else you were taking for sleep or another medical condition might have helped cause the chemical taste/ weird sensations? Or could the fear over the unknown have helped cause panic & anxiety over it?
I think most docs recommend sticking with one sleep aid and say not to rotate them in and out. The body is supposed to best respond to one drug at a time. Again, I'd talk this over with your doctor, being very open about everything else you're taking. Even certain vitamins & herbal supplements -- even grapfruit juice! -- can cause certain drugs to work differently.
Good luck. I'm sorry your sleep is so disrupted. I hope you're feeling better soon!

I hate to add another equation to the problem, but have you had your thyroid checked? When mine went my anxiety went sky high and the xanax had to be increased until synthroid took over. Fondly, Phillipa

You mentioned that your "P. Doc" prescribed the Geodon. Do you mind me asking what he is treating you for? Are you going to a psychiatrist soley for sleep problems? It would be immensly helpful if you knew what drug you were given at the party. Were you unaware that you were given the drug? Was it slipped into your drink?

I agree i dont think a drug can cause dependance from one dosage. Even herion or any opiate can not do this. I have read that it can take even upto 6 months of heroin use to become addicted physically (though they may be psychologically addicted to the drug much sooner).

I can't get into specifics because I am a student, but it was inhaled... Inhaled in a very popular way. : )
But it must have stayed in my lungs and i was slowly swallowing it fo four weeks. I called the people at the party, they won't tell me anything...
I told my P doc all this, he just gave me a choice of antipsychotics for sleep telling me that seroquel is the strongest. I am taking geodon because i have taken it before and i am comfortabe with it.

I really dont think the drug would stay in your body that long as when you snort drugs they tend to be absored by the mucous membrane in the nasal cavity and the rest goes down your throat into your stomach. And even if it did go into your lungs you would probably cough it up. I hope you feel better soon.

One more thing, your probably just experiencing anxiety from a traumatic event that the drug has caused. I guess its hard to say considering you dont know what you took. If you knew what you took then I guess it would be a bit easier to help. Once I was drugged (stuck it in my drink when i wasnt in the room) by a so called "friend" with methamphetamine, and I didnt sleep for a few days and It made me feel ill for weeks and it took a while to recover though so I really do know what its like. But Im sure you will recover from it. I think anxiety plays a big part of it. Did for me atleast. Anyway take care hope your feeling better soon :)
