Second installement of the long and very boring
series "My life"I went to the GP surgery today to see if I could switch to Lofepramine from Effexor.
The doctor I saw refused to let my try Lofepramine.
She also told me that I should get out more, and start making plans for the future.
I'd love to be able to do that but I feel so low at the moment its a real effort.
She said I needed counseling, and that she wanted to help, but that I was hiding behind labels.I've got the next few days of work but my parents aren't happy.
My dad told me I'd put on quite a lot of weight lately.
Yes I noticed.
I just don't know what to do, hospitals looking more and more atractive at the moment.

My docs were just like this at first when i went to "public" docs. So i started going private and lookie lookie the doc i have now will prescribe me mostly anything i can explain why i need and give referenses. I dont have an addictive personality though and i've built a whole lot of trust with this doc. So my advice is simple. Find another doc! My first doc also told me to get out more. Cause i was laying under my damn sheets day & night. I've been where you are and i was there for over 2 years. Things are better now, so stay strong and get a doc that is a med doc not a "talk-therapy" doc.

Well it's like this. I have a doctor that treats me(specialist in the psych field) but then i also have a mother that is a doctor(not in the psych field) so sometimes i ask her for a prescription and that's how i got pregabalin(Lyrica). I prefer not to ask my mother, but in some cases when i'm going off label like Lyrica for anxiety. And since it's not scheduled in any way she is pretty comfortable with prescribing it.

My question was actually to The_Risistance lol
Thats absolutely excellent that you have that setup with your mother being a doctor!..I wish I had a close relative who could do the same ; )
Not that anyone is lucky to have to be ill to take the tablets we take, but that is a very good advantage you have there with trying medications, I hope all is well.
Kind regards
Nick

Reefer
I meant my spelling was bad, I put Sage instead of Saga.
What is your nationality, your English seems fineNick in answer to your question it was doctor Soutzos in London who prescribed me Pregabalin.
I will babblmail you his contact details if you want.
He is quite expensive, Pregabalin itself is also very expensive, just to warn you.

Thanks for that Risistance : )
....unfortunately I can't afford to go privite at this moment in time, I was curious as to whether you had this prescribed by a gp or psychiatrist under the nhs seeing how crap they are it now makes sense to me you had to go privite.
Many thanks for the offer of contact details, I simply cannot afford it just now, although it is tempting as i'm just outside London.
Hope you get things worked out with a psychiatrist soon..
Take care
Nick

You are not alone. Even in the US the pdocs only spend about l5minutes with you. You tell them how you feel, review what you're on, and out the door. Then you're to see a therapist who works out of their office to talk. I have never found a therapist that did me any good. The one I have now is herself on prozac and doses or resperidol. So what does she say to me when I told her I was depressed? That I am having derealization and maybe I need an antipsychotic. Both my son and husband said she was bring her own illness to our sessions. But it sure didn't help me to think this is what I need. She just scared me. Fondly, Phillipa

Does Lyrica produce euphoria? At what dose?
thanks.

i haven't felt any euphoria yet but i'm still trying to reach 300 mg/day. Only thing i have felt this far is nausea, spacyness and MORE anxiety. Might be changing for the better though. I'll report more if i manage to get to 450mg/day.

I tried, i really tried to get to 300 mg per day. I just feel sedated and not one bit less anxious. You are right, the first dose i took made me feel a bit drunk in a very nice way like having 2 or 3 beers. After that i've just felt tired without being able to sleep. I've read in the trials of pregabalin that people slept well on it. Not me. Well i sleep, and when i wake i'm more tired than when i went to sleep. This drug will never replace a benzo for me, sadly.
