Hello
My pdoc give me 5 doses of 40mg propranolol to use on an as needed basis. I was just wondering how long I should wait between taking a dose and doing something anxiety producing (like a job interview).
Thank-you!

I was given 10mg tablets and found 1 more than enought.
I felt the odd effects take effect in about 2 hours
40mgs MAY be to much first off-they CAN cause a feeling of coldness, so be prepared, maybe an extra jacket? and faintness is also a common SEWishing you success!

Hmmm...I'm not a big person, do you think I should take 10mg or 20mg instead of the 40? It won't harm me to take the 40mg right?
I don't actually have an interview yet, but I'm hoping the control over my symptoms will give me courage to get one! :-)
Thank-you!

According to the PDR for Anxiety, Migraine, and Tremor 40mgs 2-3 times a day, but as I said for ME I found 10mgs first off caused me to feel cold (common) and a little odd, and was sufficent for my stimulant-induced rapid heartrate.
Propranolol is ok to take as needed, and I would advise you trial it before an event, like a job interview. Try half a dose and see how it goes,
To give you an indication doses of 160-320mgs daily are used for HBP
I would trial it before

Definitely try it on a day where you have nothing to do and see how it affects you. A beta blocker made me exhausted. Fondly, Phillipa

i'm on 10mg PRN
my pdoc says it should take effect within 15min, however it seems longer than that, i'd say at least a 1/2 hour before i really feel me calming down. he also told me that it lasts about 3 or so hours. and to take as needed.

Paulbwell, Did you say in a previous Thread that you are in med school? Not trying to be intrusive, but it's hard to remember what everyone does that choses to share it. Fondly, Phillipa

"sublingually", that's when it melts in my mouth right? I've never done that before. Does it work faster that way?

> Shy_GirlSublingually means to take medication under your tongue, and it often takes effect quicker, and or more efficiently, often allowing for lower doses.

I think you are confusing me with Matt84 who is a Med student, Ed-UK is a Pharm student, so am I, in a non-professional context;).

sooo...sublingually means it melts under the tongue? Does one swallow the melted tablet then?

Yes I knew that Matt was a med student, and I correspond with Ed. I just see you following with a lot of Matt's responses lately. If you're not in the field you should be! Fondly, Phillipa

Your attention span is a lot better than mine. When I go to read I can't concentrate. I also get lost on those threads with new information on meds. I do talk with my pharmacist. And of course, I seem to be able to retain most of what I read here. Fondly, Phillipa
This is the end of the thread.
