I got a notice that LUNESTA is now available in pharmacies. I called my local pharmacy (which is NOT part of a big chain like Walgreens) and they said they got it in today.
I'm getting a script on Friday for it - I hope it works!

There are two Threads on it further up the Board. Some have already tried it. Fondly, Phillipa

Oops--you're correct. I should have looked further up. Sorry for the re-post.

I have taken Lunesta every night for the past 6 or 7 days. It really works very well for me. I do not feel tired after waking up in the morning. If I wake up to go to the bathroom, I can fall right back to sleep.
Since 2 mg has been working so well, I'm going to cut them in half and see if I can get away with 1 mg.
A word of warning. I only occasionally took Ambien. For people who have taken Ambien every night and are switching to Lunesta, you may have to give it atleast a few nights to start working since your body is so used to Ambien.

So do you think it has any antidepressant qualities as some articles have suggested?

I can't tell. I think I read that the AD properties become apparent only after long term use. But I do feel less tired during the day sinceI am getting more sleep. And I have norediual drowsiness at all in the morning when I wake up.
Another reason I can't tell is that my depression has been under ver good control with Cymbalta.

I'm not sure you should cut them in half, the dosing I believe is time released and one pill is one dose...the PI notes "15. Each tablet is a single dose; do not crush or break the tablet."

You could cut them, but that may diintergrate the longer acting formula of the tabs--it will perhaps be shorter acting, which may or may not be an advantage.

I've already responded to some threads with this info but I'll post here as it's on lunesta. Just talked with my pharmacist about lunesta. He looked it up on the computer and said it comes in 1,2,3mg tabs. He said Wow! it's $3.37 a pill. He said it wasn't enteric coated. He also hasn't had any requests for it yet. He also believes in waiting before taking a drug. He also told me that they now have a pharmacist PA. They can Rx meds but have to report to a doctor. As he said a pharmacist goes to school to learn about medicines, and a doctor goes to school to learn anatomy and physiology. He also believes in going to older doctors between 50-70 because they know the older drugs and are not brainwashed like the new pdocs are about benzos etc. Fondly, Phillipa
This is the end of the thread.
