Hi Spriggy:

I know you asking this question for a friend, because we know you have to get your thyroid taken of before you start taking any more psych meds (nudge,nudge,...wink,wink)

So tell "your friend" to look at SLS' great chart http://sl.schofield3.home.att.net/medicine/psychiatric_drugs_chart.html
and check out the properties of various medications. There are meds that focus on dopamine, but not ADs. And why wouldn't "your friend" want to have something that targets norepinephrine as well. Since "your friend" might have anxiety issues and working just on the dopamine would not be a prudent way to go.

But you are waiting until Wednesday when you will meet with your endocrinologist and find out what treatment you will be receiving and if you need more tests .... right? ;-)

It's a quest for knowledge. At least in my case. Fondly, Phillipa

Some atypical antipsychotics at very low doses can indirectly increase dopamine by preferentially blocking presynaptic receptors. I take 10mg Geodon 2xday, and it has this effect.

Ha ha Maxime.. Thanks for the link.

Actually, my "friend" was just thinking of how well she feels after a good cup of java- which she was told targets dopamine. So she assumed if there was a pill to do the same thing, maybe she'd feel better.

But "she" got her blood results in the mail today and DOES finally see on paper that there is indeed a problem with her thyroid.

So hopefully, she'll just give it another day or two and hear what the Endo says.

Deprenyl, Wellbutrin, Ritalin, Adderall, Mirapex, Requip, low-dose Amisulpride.

Note: Some of the above meds also target Norepinephrine and most of them aren't considered ADs, although they may act as ADs for some people.
