Hey, I remember reading awhile back about someone contemplating a combination of Adderall & Abilify. Did anyone ever give this a trial? How were your results? Thanks,
Josh

Hi,
That might have been me. I take Adderall 40mg, Abilify 2.5 mg, desipramine 75mg, Luvox 50mg. The latter three are at small doses, because they potentiate each other.
I am doing very well. It is a bit odd because all of these meds are typically activating--I would expect to be a bit agitated....but for me it gives some energy and pulls me out of depressive lethargy.
The Abilify I take because it helps with anxiety and excessive rumination. Because it can be stimulating, though, some have found that it is too much so and increases anxiety.
So in other words, this combo is very effective for me...dont know how it would be for someone else.

Can you distinguish the Adderall & Abilify from all four of your meds combined... I guess what I mean is, did you start all of these meds at once?
Another question if you don't mind. On a previous trial of Abilify myself, I took a very low dose and still got akathisia pretty bad. Does Adderall help with this side effect at all? Thanks for your input,Josh

Hey,
Yes I went up to 40mg about a week ago....just as the majority, it became less and less effective.
Originally I had intended to take 20mg twice a day--to spread out the effects for a larger part of the day. Even at 40mg it now feels weak, sort of like a slightly jazzed up cup of coffee really; and makes me less dependent on coffee.
But I wont go up more, at least for a long time--dont want to ger into a pattern of chasing the good effects.....if it becomes ineffective, so be it. Taking enough medications as it is.

Perhaps you could increase the desipramine and decrease the Adderall if it 'poops out'.Ed xxx

It certainly is a thought...perhaps I should get my blood levels checked (if desipramine). It is difficult to tweak the med combo I am on, as the blood levels are so interconnected...raise one, you probably raise them all....
I was thinking of increaseing the Abilify, but maybe the desipramine would be more logical....
Thanks as always!

Do you find that Adderall makes you feel lethargic? I am a runner, and since starting this medication, I feel as if I am pulling a bowling ball behind me when I run. -L

I can't say I do, although I have yet to try true running. I feel more activated in general with the Adderall...if anything, I worry that my heart is overworked by all the stimulating medications I take, and that I will get a heart attack if I restart an exersise regime too quickly (which for me is quite likely--I tend to be all-or-nothing in the most unhealthy way).

> JoshHi JOsh,
Sorry I did not respond to your question earlier, lost track there....
It truly is difficult for me to sort out which med gives me what benefit..I did not begin them all at once, but in rather rapid succession....I do know that
1-Abilify does a lot for my anxiety. This really seems individual--some people have the opposite effect. But I know at least two other people on this board take it for anxiety relief...
2-Adderall gives me energy and focus, I type better but not without mistakes :)
I had some akasthisia with Abilify when I first started it up...I went down on the dose until it subsided, then went up in about a week or so with no problems...so for me it took a week or so to subside. I do not know whether the Adderall may help in that regard, i had not considered that as a possibility.Sorry I could not help more there...

I just came back from the doctor's office, and she has changed my medication to conerta. Can anyone give me information about that med? How does it compare with Adderall? My daughter takes Adderall, and we have seen improvement, but I think I was expecting quite more by now. -L

Concerta/Abilify combo was tried on me. I got peircing headaches, but still gave it three weeks like a good patient... quit the Abilify before my next appointment, quite to the disapproval of my n/p doc. By this time all functioning was reduced and muscle pain set in, it took a while to recover. I was prescribed Abilify because n/p doc insists too much dopamine causes my hallucinations.
