Another Seroquel question

Posted by Spriggy on April 5, 2005, at 12:12:26

I notice it says it blocks dopamine and seratonin.

If you are depressed or anxious, is that a good idea?? I guess what is confusing is that don't they usually use things to reuptake those things in depression? why would they then prescribe something that blocks it?

Or do I have all this wrong??

I am just confused as heck. The one pdoc says to never take anything that messes with seratonin, and yet the other dr. gives me Seroquel for sleep/anxiety. It says it affects seratonin.

So I have no idea if I will wig out or not on this medicine- every other med that touched my seratonin wigged me out.

My poor, sweet husband has offered to drive me into the ER parking lot, have me take the pill and sit there with me for one hour "just in case."

Is he not the nicest man or what??

I see my dr. in 4 hours so I can pick his brain about it but I have so many other health issues to discuss, I don't want to bombard him.

Everyone is wired differently. Our brains are so complex, no one is really sure why any of the pdrugs actually work. So things that seem to be contradictory are not, such as other seratonin-affecting drugs affecting you negatively and this one positively. Really, I'm not kiding. This is partly because they each do something different to get to their goal. For example, if you want to gain weight, you could eat a LOT or NEVER exercise or take thyroid drugs or ... but they all have the same outcome
