I am new to the medication world, with a new diagnosis of "Major Depressive Disorder" (depressing in itself). I started on Wellbutrin. Did the starter pack, went to the regular full dose and was doing great! I had eneregy! I did exercise! I could do all the boring tasks of a frustrated professional turned mommy of two with a smile! I had sex. Then I got a horrible rash and welts. Allergic to the wonderdrug. After a weaning from hell- cold turkey witht the effect of absolute tiredness and grumpyness, my doc says, Lets try Effexor after the rash is gone.
Well, Im still rashy and have read a lot about Effexor. The official stuff said loss of appetite and nausea. The info from this site scares me. The weaning seems hellish. I am not interested in weight gain or anything that would make me less motivated or lethargic. Can anyone give me a reason to try this drug? Does anyone know of anything like wellbutrin instead? Thanks if you have any info.

from my experience wellbutrin helped more with energy and effexor (after first few weeks of increased heart rate) worked great for depressive/obsessive states
