I've been on 20mg Lexapro for 5 weeks and it hasn't helped for my GAD, so i started XanaxXR which is helping but i'd rather the Lexapro worked. Anyone know the highest and safest dosage one can take Lexapro?

I take 40mg for my GAD. I also should mention that I also have fairly severe depression and I haven't had a full recovery w/ just the Lexapro. Although I think it did help my anxiety some. But, I think you do have room to move up to a higher dose.

How long did it take for 40mg Lexapro to work for your GAD?
What kind of symptoms would you describe your GAD with? I feel physicaly weak all the time, like I have the flu.

After years of taking just .5 to 1 mg. Klonopin for GAD my therapist suggesting changing to Xanax XR. I've been on 1mg. twice a day for a few months and it does not seem to be quite as sedating as Klonopin. I also have been taking 10 mg. Lexapro for a few months and this week we increased it to 20 mg. It's making me sleepy during the day so I am hoping this will pass.

Hmm..it has been a while since I started it, so I couldn't say for sure. I think it started fairly quickly, but that has been my experience with most other meds that I have been on.

Physically, I tend to feel tense w/ headaches and muscle aches. The Lex worked pretty well on these symptoms. I also experience a lot of worrying. The lex helped some, but not completely w/ this.Sounds like Lex might be a good try for you. Good luck!
