Folks,
I am running out of my Lamictal. In fact, I took my last (half) dose today (100 mg). I don't yet have a new pdoc here, and my old one only supplied me with a month's worth of the stuff. In addition I'm taking Celexa 80 mg.
What am I to do? I could "tough it out" until I find a new doctor, but I don't want to get a seizure from withdrawal from the Lamictal. Is this likely, or is the half-life long enough that the chance of such an effect would be minimal or nil?

Hey! Your old doc definitely was in error by not giving you adequate refills. I guess you *could* tough it out, but that's pretty much needless suffering, at least as I see it...my advice would be to call your GP, bring your RX bottles in with you, explain what's up, and try to get a script (shouldn't be a problem, assuming you're not taking controlled-substances). My GP *hates* just RX'ing, but she's done this for me in order to rectify a shrink's incompetence.

I think med_empowered's strategy might be a good one. Alternatively, you could call your old p-doc, and explain the situation. He/she might very well be willing to call in a new prescription to whatever local pharmacy is in your area. If that takes a while, I've found that pharmacies are pretty good about giving you a few pills to tide you over until you can get an RX.
HTH,

How about the emergency room? You could bring your Rx and maybe they will either refer you to a pdoc or give you a Rx. Some will. Fondly, Phillipa

I agree with the previous posters.
I've been in your shoes and had it happen to me. What usually works is a phone call to either your GP doc or your pdoc. They can call a prescription in to your pharmacy, enough to last until your next estimated appointment.
In a worst case scenario, which I've been through, going to the emergency room can work. Just explain the situation and they can probably help with a temporary prescription.
This is the end of the thread.
