A friend of mine is on disability and takes Oxycontin (10 mg I think?) daily. He gave me a little bag of these pills to try, and 20mg's just puts me on Cloud 9. Oh ya and mixed with Ritalin...very nice. Not just 'euphoria', but a lifting of the invisible pain of anxiety and depression. :-) What narcotic pain med (without acetaminophine or aspirin, etc..) would be a good shot? I *know* my doctor won't give me Oxy just off-hand, but he was the one who pushed the Ritalin on me, so who knows. By the way, I am in Canada.
Thanks,
Jay

Yeah everyone knows that opiods will help anxiety and depression. The opiods receptors basically are the pleasure centers of the body. Most opiods will create a happy, warm, cozy feeling and relieve pain!
As far as non APAP etc.. try vicoprofen is hydrocodone/ibuprofen (safter on liver by far) cause u can take a lot of ibuprofen (Advil)
there is the duragesic (fentanyl) transdermal patch also great (most powerful opiod next to herion BY the way) It is also avail. as Actiq as a lolly pop i think.
hmm otherwise you can get any of the substances (hydrocodone, oxycodone, codeine and tramadol without acetaminophen etc.. by a compounding pharmacy, just tell your doctor the acetaminophen etc.. hurts your stomach or something.
Personally, If you can get the duragesic (fentyal) patch that would be the best pain relief - no APAP.
Also u can try Lyrica once its out. I use it and honestly its better than hydrocodone. It is amazing.
Hope this helps

Some people swear that such drugs will increase depression, but I know that when I had a nasty sinus/cough thing going on last month, my dr. prescribed me some cough medicine with Codeine.
I always noticed about 30 minutes after taking it, I felt SOOOO good and happy. It was bizarre- my anxiety/depression was GONE.I almost concerned myself with abuse issues but since it was only a tiny bottle's worth, it was gone within a week and I've been back in this anxiety/depressed funk ever since.
I suppose the concern would be abuse and tolerance issues though. Eventually, you will have to take more and more to get the same result.
My dad has a dilaudid pump in his back because he has degenerative disc disease and has had 7 back surgeries. On top of that, he is now on Oxycontin (he is dying) and he seems happier than he's ever been (he is also bipolar by the way). Maybe he is happier and more at peace becuase of the Oxycontin. I never put the two together but it could be.

Yeah, a double martini puts me on Cloud 9. I suppose a rock of crack might too.

Careful, Jay. You might want to do a search a few years back. Can't recall the name offhand, but please be careful.

There is a PB poster here who tried OXY 10mg for Sever/long term Depression-It helped, after dozens of other meds didn't.
He now takes 5mgs of Hydrocodone Q.I.D. It helps more- and gives the poor young chap, somewhat of a normal life, God bless him.
Desperate times sometimes call for desperate measures.
(lets be supportive here ha?)
Cheers

I'm not against being supportive. I just remember a poster with a less positive outcome. Desperate measures call for extreme caution and very good supervision by a competent professional.

Completly and 100% agreed.
Using Opiates/Opiods for mood disorders, is real last resort stuff, in todays Political, Medical, climate.
But what do you do if these agents are the only thing that provides someone with a quality of life worth-living, after dozens of 'traditional' approaches have failed (even ECT).
There is much medical literature on the use of these agents to treat, Refractory mood disorders, indeed they were used extensively pre 1950, before the advent of Psychiatrys beginnings into Biopsychiatric sophistication, which began with Imipramine 1958, and which some in the Psych field have stated represents more this, than advance in treatment. The young man I mentioned earlier, is doing very well, in his words "Feels Normal for the first time in years" after years of suffering, a sever mood disorder. He may well go on to experience tolerance, to his medicine, he may not. He is simply wrapped, and feels very fortunate to be "Feeling Ok" today, with his team of specialists guiding, supporting him.
Tomorrow
Next week
Next month
next year, may change, but for now he is "living"
and I for one wish him all the best.
