I was wondering something...
I beilieve that a lot of my hostility is triggered by anxiety.
I was wondering if a benzo might help to curb this problem.
I've tried a lot of antidepressants, mood stabilizers, antipsychotics, etc. and nothing has really helped. (I am uber-sensetive to psych meds.) I'm on 10 mg Zyprexa now, I can't increase that dose. a week ago I stopped Cymbalta due to intolerable headaches. My Dx is Schizoaffective and Generalized Anxiety Disorder.
So, could a benzo maybe work? I also need it cheap. I am unemployed and have no insurance, I live in the US.
TIA

Yes, especially if you're diagnosed with an anxiety disorder. Fondly, Phillipa

Thanks. I think I will talk to my pdoc about getting some. Do you know which ones are available as a generic and tend to be longer acting?

Antidepressant + zyprexa + benzo combo seems to be a reasonable choice. It may be that you are resistant to antidepressants and will need TCA or maybe even MAOI. A lot of things to try and work on.

Have you tried Tegretol or Trileptal? There is a *small* possibility that a benzodiazepine can make things worse if you are one of the people for whom it produces disinhibition. Disinhibition is the same effect that alcohol has on some individuals where they get loud, irritable, and hostile - sometimes violent. Still, I would probably try a benzo if you have already tried so many other drugs. Perhaps Klonopin would be the best choice because it is somewhat mood-stabilizing and has a long half-life, so its anxiolytic effects remain even throughout the day. That's just a guess. Hopefully, your doctor will have had some experience in this direction to make the best choice of agent.
