Please help, another Adderall question and theory

Posted by scatterbrained on March 27, 2005, at 21:03:01

So, I've been taking adderall w/ moderate improvement in cognition, numbness and anhedonia however, not complete and seems to wear off as the day progresses and the wierd thing is even with an added dose in the afternoon my symptoms don't seem to get better. Why is this? and what can be done about it? I have a few theories as to why it would work in the morning better than the afternoon. One is that the adderall may be augmenting one of the other drugs that I'm taking, and one of these other drugs could be wearing off in the afternoon which would in turn cause the adderall to wear off, but which
drug(s), I'M TAKING SO DAMN MANY!!I'll give a list. AdderallXR 50am and 30 afternoon, SAM-E1600mg(800mg-am,800mg-pm)Zoloft(100mg-am)Namenda(10mg-am)Aricept(5mg-pm)Zyprexa(5mg-pm), and a multi-vitamin in the morning. What would be the most sytematic way to test out this theory?

I would suspect that the morning is the point where your body has gone its longest period of time without the drug and then you take the larger 50mg dose.

To me it sounds like tachyphylaxis (aka. tolerance).

I'm not familiar with Adderal dosages. Is 80 mg a high dose? If not, why not try raising the afternoon dose? Also, you might need an increase in your dosage of Zoloft.

What time do you take your pm dose of SAM-e?

Yes adderall at 80mg a day is a very high dose, i think it's higher than what is FDA approved but i may be wrong, and it seems no matter how high a dose i go up to in the afternoon, it doesn't work. regarding the SAM-e,I take 800 in the morning and 800 at bed time.

hey! 80mgs is a pretty high dose, although some docs will go a bit higher ((not much)). The FDA-approved levels are: up to 40mgs/day ADD; up to 60mgs/day for narcolepsy. Obviously, docs aren't bound by this (I take 60mgs for ADD--30mgs morning, 30mgs afternoon), so higher doses are common. I think the advice to take a higher dose in the afternoon makes sense, as does trying to split the dose up evenly (that helps me). I used to take 30mgs XR, then 30mgs generic instant-release. My new doc accidentally RX'd 2 instant release tabs per day; I've found that, for me at least, this actually works better: the instant-release works faster, wears off gradually, and seems to have a bit more "oomph" than the XR.

Is the Zoloft activating for you or sedating? If it's sedating take it in the PM. Also take your second dose of Adderall on an empty stomach. Finally, see if you can hold out for your morning dose of the Adderall. Try a strong cup of coffee.

The Zyprexa is really sedating ... don't you find?

That's a lot of Adderall. Have you tried other stims?

Do you think that you should try taking the second SAM-e dose in the afternoon? I've read that it's generally better not to take it too late in the day because it can interfere with sleep. Also, if you take it earlier, maybe it will help with your late day symptoms.
