A mental health assessment by Spriggy

Posted by Spriggy on March 26, 2005, at 14:01:54

I hope this doesn't offend anyone here.. Most of us have been labeled with some sort of Mental illness which to the "normal" folk just = Crazy.

I've come to terms with that. If I'm crazy, then so be it, but I want to be the best crazy I can be so that I can at least look normal.

I REALLy, REALLY thought from December to February that I was going "insane." I don't say that lightly either. I mean I REALLY thought I was going "crazy."

So, I went to the psych ward and I realized something after spending 4 days there with other "crazy" people.

I really believe that if you THINK you are crazy, or if you are concerned that you are crazy, than more than likely you are still okay.

BECAUSE, I was around people that truly were "crazy" and they had no idea.

So if it's a question you keep asking yourself, you are probably just fine.

Maybe that will comfort somebody else.

My sentiments exactly,

I also went to psyche wards in the past (Thinking I had Lost it). And I really saw some distrubing things. But I also saw and talked to some really confused, depressed, and fed up people usually in despair over situations they have had not control over in their llves. Such as haealth and finacial problems. Loss of a loved one or a spouse, etc.

These people ranged from nurses, professionals, lawyers you name it.

I graduated college with several degrees and considered my self a pretty stable person. But it is when you lose that sense of control that you think you are going crazy.

I have had many mental health professionals tell me that as long as you are questioning your sanity, worrying about, and know what you are doing and feeling is wrong. Then you are not crazy by no means.

And as going on six years with my condition as most people will come to realize. Medication is not a magic pill that will change you and make everything better. It is like any other medication it just helps manage the symtoms.

Just my two cents,

BRC

Spriggy, what BRC is correct. If you think you're crazy you're not. If your behavior is bizarre and you don't see it you are and meds are definitely needed. Fondly, Phillipa

In "An Unquiet Mind", Kay Jamison wrote that there was a specific point when she knew she had become insane. Not that that is necessarily the case for everyone of course.
