Lamictal users.. info please

Posted by Spriggy on March 16, 2005, at 16:47:19

PLEASe if Lamictal wigged you out, caused you to gain 1,000 pounds, made your hair fall out, or caused you to grow a 3rd eyeball, I beg you not to repond to me and tell me about it.

I am drug paranoid and if anyone tells me their horrid experience with Lamictal, being the drug paranoid freak that I am, I might not even take it.

SOOOO.. let my ignorance be bliss.

Now.. for those of you on Lamictal and it is helping (or did help) can you tell me:

1) what dose did you start out on?

2) did it make you sleepy or give you energy? (I'm trying to figure out if I should take it at bedtime or in the morning!)

3) how long before you noticed the effects?

Thanks in advance.

Oh, Spriggy, thanks for making me laugh!

Did your doctor give you the multi-fold, orange cardboard start-up sample pack with the almost-impossible-to-push-out-the-back pills laid out by numbered days and weeks? (Probably not if you're wondering about dosage.)

This "special" packaging starts off at 25mg a day for two weeks, then 2 x 25mg a day (50mg/day) for two more weeks, and then 100mg a day beginning in the fifth week.

I noticed "effects" from the first pill I took. In keeping with your request, however, I won't mention all of them. :-)

I was a little agitated the first week, and I started blurting out things that I normally wouldn't say. Now in the third week (50mg/day), I'm beginning to notice an anti-depressant effect. I have a bit more energy and I'm noticing things that I need to do and have put off for the past several months. I think that's good.

I take it in the morning, because it tends to cause insomnia in some people.

Have you read the information on Jerod's site? I keep going back to it when I have concerns about why I'm taking this medicine:

I'm sure others here with more experience with Lamictal will give you more complete answers.

Good luck!

Spriggy, I see you haven't lost your sense of humor! Remember watch out for the infamous lamictal rash! I know you've read about it before. I can't wait to see how it works for you, as I'm considering asking to try it instead of an AD. Fondly, Phillipa

Hi Spriggy

I started at a dosage of 12.5 mg for one week. Then 25 mg for two weeks and increments of 25 mg every two weeks until I reached 150 mg.

So that is how my dosage was titrated. I hope it works for you. I have a good feeling about it.

Maxime

I started at 25 and went up to 50 after 2 weeks,75 a week later. Going to 100 after 75 for a week.I had a headache the first week and was tired. Started to take the 50mgs.at night,no more than my usual insomnia. Now I do 25mgs. in morning and 50mgs. at night. So far I feel a "little" better,no other side effects, but as you know "we" are all different in how we respond. GOOD LUCK! Sorry this is late, just finished working my 4 12 hrs.
