okay... Lamictal now..

You can read my post above about my update.

My doctor is pretty sure I'm a diabetic and today did the insuline blood/fasting test. Monday will do the fasting blood glucose test. So they can't really "treat" my diabetes yet until they know where the problem is; insulin, glucose.

At the office my blood sugar was at 72 which is pretty low- but I had not eaten so that is some of the account.

I have a new doctor. He is AWESOME! Not only is he a Christian (and addresses the spiritual side of depression, etc.), he even prayed with me.

So he won my vote!

He decided after looking over my chart and literally spending 45 minutes talking with me (which is unheard of for a doctor around here!), that he believes I am Bipolar 2.

He explained it to me and how it was a different type of bipolar than my father has, thus the reason I was so resistent to get the label.

He changed me from Depakote to Lamictal. He said Depakote is better for bipolar 1's in manic state, but Lamictal is better for Bipolar 2 and it also has an anti depressent property (which is what a pharmacist had also told me so the doctor actually KNOWS what he's talking about).

He has me starting on 25 mg's for 2 weeks, then up to 50 mg's for 2 weeks, then I go back to see him. He may up me to 100 mg's but said I was pretty small and 50 might work well for me.

He also gave me samples of Seroquel for sleep if I wanted to "try" an anti psychotic. He left it up to me.

He wants me to up my Klonopin from .12 twice a day to at least .25 twice a day but once again, he said it was up to me- he felt I would get better results if I upped my dosage. I'm too paranoid of becoming addicted/dependent but am realizing I may just need these drugs for this time in my life.

He also has me on Restoril for sleep since it's doing the job for me.

Other than that, we are playing it by ear. He seems to think Lamictal will be a good fit since my father has had good results.

He thinks the Seroquel can work wonders but because of the diabetes issue, he said it might not be what I should use if I needed an anti psychotic.

All in all, I was just impressed that he actually sat down for 45 minutes and asked me questions and listened to me. He prayed with me and explained things to me in such detail.

So I think I am finally figuring things out and will just trust God from here.

I start Lamictal tomorrow (today I have a fever for some unknown reason so he said wait until fever subsides so I won't assume it's the meds).

I missed you all! Thank you for your thoughts and prayers while I was away with my dad.

I leave again tomorrow for 2 days, I'm speaking at a Women's Conference... oddly enough, on trusting God through your valley's.

It's good to be "home."
