Where are all the lexapro users.

Posted by Steve3211 on March 15, 2005, at 15:46:24

Hi everyone,
There used to be a lot of Lexapro users on here that seemed quite happy with it. I am going through a little bit of a bump right now and wondering if anybody has any experience with relapse with Lex but continued to use it with success. I have now been using it for over a year but only at 5 mg.
Thanks all Steve

i started a previous thread about it because i just started taking it recently for anxiety and depression and ocd, i started at 10mg for 4 weeks but it didn't seem to do much, now i'm at 20mg for 2.5 weeks and hoping it will start making a difference for me. How long did it take for Lex to start working for you at 5mg and what are you taking it for?

I've been on Lexapro 20mg for about a year and it's helped me tremendously, but it took almost 3 months for me to really feel it. Started with 10mg which was not enough. It seems like more and more folks are taking 20mg, as 10 isn't really enough.

Wildman, what are you taking Lexapro for?

> Hi everyone,
I have never heard of anyone getting good results at 5 mg for as long as a year. You absolutely need a dose increase. I was doing pretty good at 40 mg when I was on Lexapro.

My mom has had great results for about 9 months on 10 mg's so maybe you need to up your dosage.

I took it (also 5 mg's) and it made me much worse and totally wigged me out; hallucinations, etc.. BUT I just found out I'm Bipolar 2 so that's why I reacted that way to it.

Hi Chess,
I am taking it for depression and anxiety. Pretty severe episodes of depression but always starts with anxiety. It took a while for it to kick in and the side effects were not real nice, but now I am happy with it. Side effects are gone and I think it is a very effective med for depression. I find that when you bump up the dose it can cause a lot of anxiety but this eventually works itself out. I think I am going to bump up the dose slowly however.
Best to you all Steve

I have been taking 7.5mg. of lexapro for over a yr. I tried going up to 10mg. & I couldn't take it. To many side effects. It took a good 2 months before I felt like it was working. Was very tired at first but I hung in there. I also take 15mg. of remeron & 1mg. klonopin daily. This combo seems to be working fine for me.

Have been taking 10mg Lexapro, a direct swap for 20mg Celexa for almost 18 months, perhaps 48 months for Celexa + Lexapro combined, plus 20 mg diazepam/day plus 10mg Ambien plus 16mg Suboxone per day, all for about the past 20 months.

I have never felt any side effect from lexapro, but I did with celexa.

I feel better than ever, no poop out on the lexapro, no benzo poop out or tolerance, the Ambien works every night as expected and Suboxone helps with chronic pain and depression. I do, however, look forward to Lunesta.

The NoonDay Demon is written by the son of Forest Pharm, the company that distributes Lexapro. I recommend this book to everyone.

I have become quite psychotically anti-med in the past and have attempted drastic stupid rapid tapers twice, each time resulting almost in hospitalization, divorce and several suicide attempts. I tapered from Xanax, Klonopin, and Valium rapidly when I was young, also rapid tapers from SSRIs and tramadol and trazadone in the stupid past -- each time with a resulting return of major depression and psychotic episodes with hallucinations, sleep disorders, etc.

Now I know that I am a lifelong psychotropic user and any benzophobe that walks into my office or my life is immediately excised from my life. Beware the benzophobe -- they are not compassionate, but rather like preachers. These days, pdocs are much more savvy about benzos, but for those of us who lived through the Xanax 90s often benzos become a lifelong and non-toxic solution to GAD. I have never found that diazepam doesn't work, even after years of use.

Of course, you asked about lexapro and I find that diazepam and lexapro make a good long term mix.
I cannot afford to become obsessed about an Rx free life now that I have a family that depends upon me.

For those who find that lexapro has pooped out, often pdocs will recommend remeron or the old standby, MAOIs.

In retrospect, I remember now that I have had some pretty significant highly depressive periods in the recent past. I tend to try to forget those and move forward hoping everything's OK.

But I suppose that Lexapro may have pooped out in those cases, or Lexapro at 10mg may have been unable to handle the depressive episode.

For maintenance, though, it seems to have held up and I pulled out of the major depressive epis in 3-4 days.

Nothing's perfect...

well i just started taking lexapro also for depression. i am prescribed 10mg, but it was too much at first. i break mine in half and take 5mg two times a day. sometimes i am really tired, and i dont know if that is from the lexapro or not. at first, the 5mg gave me energy and helped a lot, then when it wore down, i took the other 5mg. i feel like i am getting used to it now, so i want to try taking the full 10mg, but not sure when i should take it. sometimes i am tired/sometimes i am wide awake on it. :) never a constant thing. is that normal?

it seems to have helped so far. i am not big on psych meds, but i know the side effects have been very few and small, espec compared to effexor, which is what they started me on last year. that was a mess.

how long before the tiredness goes away? do you guys take yours in the morning or at night??
