Which Version of Wellbutrin works best, SR or XL?

Posted by theo on March 13, 2005, at 16:11:06

I might start a low dose of Wellbutrin, 150mg SR or 150mg XL and didn't know which is the better release from user experience.

I understand XL is suppose to be once daily, but doctors prescribed SR once daily as an add on before XL hit the market.

Any input would be appreciated.

Need input please. (nm)

Hi:
In my opinion, you may get a good result with XL version, as seeing you take just once a day. Also, you can take the 'XL' in the morning with a breakfast and get its efficacy all day long, whereas the 'SR' has a '12 hours' efficacy.

I take 'sr'version 100 mg., tid from the morning to the bedtime on which I get a 'maximum' effectiveness since the 300 mg. is an average dosage. However, an 'add-on' purpose, probably you may able to take the 150 mg. SR in the morning on which you need just during the daytime, not at night when you do NOT need to work and doing other 'social' interaction.

Why do you take the SR versus the XL? Also, are you taking generic or name brand?

Hi:
>>> Why do you take the SR versus the XL? Also, are you taking generic or name brand? <<<

--- At the beginning of the WB sr regimen, there was NO 'XL' version. When the XL came to the market, my pdoc. rx'ed the XL for the reason I just needed to take 'once' a day, instead of 'three times' a day. However, I was somehow hesitatnt to get it changed, ... mostly I had NO problem of taking the SR version, although I felt deep down, ... maybe the XL was better.... but still I didn't feel like to change as knowing I'm one of those who is VERY faithful and loyal to the med. regimen. A-three-times a day didn't bother me a bit. Actually, I love to see my clear plastic 'med.' organizer, as seeing those meds. helping me keep going everyday.

In terms of 'generic' and 'brand,' ... since the 'generic' came to the market, I've been taking the generic version, called 'Bupropion SR' 100 mg and getting EXACT same efficacy along with same type of S.E.s that went away with time.
