Starting Effexor

Posted by kritty on March 13, 2005, at 13:18:34

I have been taking 37.5 mg of Effexor for the past 3 days for anxiety and depression and the side effects are making me feel funny. I'm sweating, shaking and twitching (more than usual) and intense dizzy spells accompanied by hot flashes. I feel like i'm on a speed trip - the body buzz the whole thing. Please tell me this goes away after a few days!

Most people say it does, I stopped the med and tried something else. Fondly, Phillipa

Hi,

Yes, those horrible side effects do go away. For me it took at least a week to 10 days. I didn't start feeling like I could cope again until about two weeks in, and it took until six weeks before I felt 'normal' again. Your mileage may vary.

Hey Kritty,

Yeh it takes a while for your system to get used to it - a week or so. I started to feel better in myself after about 3 weeks but this varies for everyone. You're the best judge of whether this drug is good for you or not, so just listen to your body and give it a little time. You'll know if it isn't right for you. Also be aware it a couple of days to adjust to changes in dosage too.

Been Efexor-XR free for 37 days now and am doing okay - touch wood [he says touching his head]. Hope it works for you.

Let us know how you're doing.
