clomipramine update

Posted by linkadge on March 12, 2005, at 10:16:29

Not doing too badly. Reduced physical anxiety. Feels like an SSRI, but surprisingly not as intrusive, ie no akathesia.

Some heart palps, but still only on 25mg.

good to hear you're doing well.

btw the TCA's are effective anti-akathesia drugs- probably a combination of cholinergic and NE reuptake blockades.

Glad to hear you're doing well so far, Linkadge. I'm having some palpitations on doxepin too. What does your doctor say about that?

I've always started on SSRIs in the past while on a small amount of a TCA. Maybe that's at least part of the reason why I never experienced any akathisia type problems on them until recently (and recently I tried starting SSRIs without a TCA).

Hi. I'm glad to hear it's going well. You said it's like an ssri, but does it cause the apathy that ssri's can cause?

:-( I hope the heart palps subside.

Good luck Linkadge. Thanks for keeping us posted. I hope you will be able to continue to tolerate it, and that it works well for you.

Take care of yourself.

Hi Link!

I hope the Anafranil works out for you. Rapid heart rate is common on TCAs, serious arrhythmias are rare, especially in (physically) healthy young men like you!

There is some apathy, but much less than with an SSRI. Ie, I do enjoy watching movies, something I didn't do on SSRI's, perhaps a combination of apathy and akathesia.

Glad your doing quite well on Clomipramine,

I just wanted to but into say that I have been on Clomipramine and I think quite highly of it
Although the side effects are quite substantial I think they can be overated.

It has deffinetly been the only antidepressant I've taken that every actualy helped me, Effexor XL 150 feels like a sugar pill.
