I am on week two of buspirone 10mg a day.
I have some questions:
Does somebody have success in anxiety and/or depression with buspirone alone?
How long do you have to wait for efficacy?
what is your dosage daily when you feel positive properties from buspirone? Is my dosage too low?Tanks a lot

I have a friend on Buspar and she says it helps her. Her dad was violently killed and she had severe post traumatic stress. She started on Buspar and it helped her. However, I have heard if you have ever been on Benzo's, Buspar doesn't seem to help as much.
do you or have you taken Benzo's for a period of time? if so, it might not be as effective for you.
But really, only time will tell if it's for you. I know it's supposed to be less addictive than the benzo's so that's a plus.
And my friend lost weight on it- don't know if that's common or not.

it seems quixotic to use buspirone as monotherapy, but for what it's worth, the manufacturer's suggested range for generalized anxiety disorder (its only approved indication) is 20-30 mg/day. Oddly, it does seem to work better than expected for PTSD, though it has documented worthlessness in panic disorder and social phobia. When I added it as an adjunct to nortriptyline, i noticed an immediate difference, but it has a reputation for being more effective as an augmenter.

it seems to have almost no sideeffects for me after 2 weeks monotherapy and when it will have some positive properties some weeks later, why not testing.
It is of course difficult to say if a drug has some effect after four weeks; i mean after four weeks mood can change naturaly, memory does not fully remember what the mood/anxiety was (the opposite to the benzodiazepines acting immediately)
I suppose they market the buspar as anxiolytic substance, because it was truly a too weak antidepressant. But I will see.
Perhaps 10mg a day is too low and I should go up to 20mg a day.
Any other experience?
Thanks.

The pdoc tried to augment my Ad with buspar, but it did nothing except give me some red itchy bumps on my stomach. Fondly, Phillipa

I take 20mg of Buspar and it doesn't seem to do much to alleviate my anxiety, but then I take Abilify which I am convinced is the cause of the anxiety in the first place. Can't take more because of SE's, so I am thinking of a long talk with the pdoc and a change in the regimen. Good luck if you raise it. I never knew about the word concerning benzos and Buspar.....I have taken and still take benzos...perhaps that is why it does nothing for me. Will also ask about that.
This is the end of the thread.
