Which pdoc is best?!

Posted by pretty_paints on March 3, 2005, at 12:37:17

Hi guys,

I have recently changed docs. At first I was seeing, I'll call her Betty!

She was really nice, compassionate. She was a staff-grade doctor. Then she got ill and was off for about 2 months.

In the meantime I saw her consultant, who I'll call Rosie! At the time, she seemed much better in that she described exactly what was going on and gave me some answers. I decided to change, and I know this is really bad, but basically it was coz she was a consultant and I thought she would be *better*.

I have been to see her today and now I am having second thoughts :( She is much more professional and clearly knows what she is doing, but she is more cold and looks quite strict. Whenever I used to say something like "you're angry at me arn't you" to Betty, she'd be like "noo! Don't be silly!" and stroke my arm or something.

But no way would Rosie do this. She's more conservative.

I feel a right div now coz I'm worried I won't get on with my new doctor. I think I acted too hastily. Stupid me. But then, do I want to go back to Betty?

I don't know! I don't know which is for the best!

Any help?

I feel miserable xx

What is a staff-grade doctor?

The best doctor is the one who listens to you and hears you at the same time. As long as sterness doesn't stop you from asking questions etc. Then go with doctor number 2.

It is odd for a doctor to have physical contact with a patient. I'm not saying it is wrong, but usually doctors must refrain from it in case it is misconstrued. Personally I HATE to be touched. I would freak out if a doctor reached out to touch me.

Are you seeing this doctor for therapy or is it a pdoc?

Hi,

She's my pdoc.

For me it would depend on whether I am seeking the person with the most knowledge about meds--or if my meds are pretty well worked out and I just need followups and small adjustments. I had a similar dilemma.
The most sympathetic pdoc was also extremely careful and conservative--not a good match when I needed someone willing to take risks and be aggressive with meds.

Hi Kate! Give the new pdoc a chance. Maybe you need someone who is a little stern. Fondly, Phillipa

Sorry I had a brain-f*rt. Your subject said PDOC. I'm going to blame it on brain-fog. :)

Take care. I still think the second doctor sounds very good.

Keep us posted.
