Bathroom mold: dangerous?

Those small dark blotches that sometimes form on the ceiling above the shower or on the shower curtain -- are these toxic? Is this the dreaded "black mold"? Am I going to suffer ongoing consequences to my cognition of psychological health? Or is this type of mold nontoxic?
