From what I know about it, it varies between a wide range. Soem people start losing appetite at 25mg and some at 200mg.

With Topamax weight loss is almost a guarantee. I lost 25 lbs on it in one summer.
Goodluck,

I don't want to be the bearer of bad news, but weight loss is not a guarantee on topamax. My daughter(bipolar II) took it for four months and went off for two weeks. She tried another mood stabilizer and ended up back on topamax and she really didn't lose much at all the entire time she was on it. She was up to 400 mg at one time. She wasn't there long, and is working her way back up again. I take 200mg per day for mood control, and my appetite fluctuates back and forth, so I can say that I really have not lost a pound either way. I have been told that it takes around 400mg to get the weight loss effect for many people. Some achieve it at lower doses, and some not at all. I know most of us want to hear that it will work as a weight loss bonus, but we must open our eyes right away and accept the fact that it may not. I know that my hopes were up for that, and I was dissapointed with that aspect. Good luck to you. -L
