Hey all. Its been 10 days since I took my last dose of Parnate. Anyway im feeling better, not as depressed but im still depressed. Im on 10mg of Zyprexa and 1000 of Depakote, I dont know what I could add to help with the depression?
My pdoc has tried upping the Depakote but my blood levels increase so much even If I only add 200mg, I seem to be rather sensitive to this drug.
Should I be honest with my pdoc and tell him that I stopped Parnate? Im scared he will lecture me, but its starting to feel so much nicer not worrying about what I can and cant eat.
Maybe I should ask if i can go on Lamictil? I really dont know. I have been on so many antidepressants (17 to be exact) and they really dont work for me so I dont think I want to try another one. I know if I tell him that I went off Parnate because of the side effects (nausea and fatigue mainly also sexual dysfunction) that he will want me to try Nardil but I really REALLY dont ever want to go back on an MAOI. I know these drugs can help a lot of people but personaly I just want to stay clear of this class of antidepressants.
Again any suggestions would be great. Thanks heaps and take care.

Yes, you must tell him.
We get pissed off at our PDOCS because they don't help us, it's a two way street. We have to give them as much info as possible.
It was your right to stop the Parnate and he should help you find something that works.
Please tell him
Good luck.

Oh and maybe you might want to check out the Alternative board. You might be more open to trying trying something mentioned there. But again, inform your doctor. :)

Thanks your right i should tell him. Im not very hopeful in alternative medicine ive tried a lot of that before. I think most of it is due to the placebo effect anyway. Maybe Im wrong but really who knows?

A possible reason you're feeling better is because a lot of the side effects are gone but the MAO inhibition is still taking place. Be careful the next few weeks as you may downslide.
How many mg were you taking a day? I just bumped mine to 60mg after 5 days of being on it, and haven't felt any side effects yet.

With Parnate, after 10 days there would be no MAO inhibition taking place. That is what my pdoc told me.
That great that you haven't had any SE on it Brian! I hope it continues that way. The only SE I had from it was the afternoon exhaustion.
