i don't know anything about medicinal marijuana at all. can drs actually write scripts for this and make it okay for people to smoke at home or something? all i know about medicinal marijuana is marinol, which is pot in a pill. it's prescribed for extreme nausea and lack of appetite. since pot gives one the munchies, it helps people take in more and keep it down. my dr offered it, but i haven't actually ever smoked anything, and i don't know how i would take to it.
on another note, i've heard of experiments where pdocs use ecstasy. does anyone know about this? is it okay for those pts to use ecstasy on their own during the study? dude, i want part of that!

Copied:
In the late 1970s, MDMA was used to facilitate psychotherapy by a small group of therapists in the United States. Illicit use of the drug did not become popular until the late 1980s and early 1990s. Before it was made illegal in 1985, MDMA was used by psychiatrists as a therapeutic tool. Studies are currently underway in Spain and Israel assessing MDMA's effectiveness in the treatment of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). There is much controversy over the use of MDMA for this purpose, which is beyond the scope of this article.I think it's a baaaad idea. Sure, ecstasy changed my life, it was unbelievable, it woke me up, it opened up new doors for me but behind those doors was a life of drug abuse, anxiety and depression!!!

I used to get MDMA when it was legal in NYC. They had bars/clubs that would serve it in drinks called 'Smart Drinks', all kinds of chems, no restrictions. Funny though, I can't remember anybody dying, even freak-outs were rare. I took it alot back then and my only negative was tolerance and an occasional hangover, I wouldn't take that much now, I was a kid back then.

Some of the things I read recently report that marijuana can trigger at an earlier age, or accelerate the course of, psychotic disorders. However, there doesn't seem to be much evidence that it will produce psychosis in people whom do not have a predisposition for it.

Hi,
In the UK, a synthetic cannabinoid called nabilone is available on prescription. It is used for severe nausea and vomiting due to cancer chemotherapy. It is prescribed very rarely now that Zofran and similar drugs are on the market. We don't have dronabinol/THC(Marinol) in the UK, you've got it in the US though!

> - ScottI have a freind who is Bi-Polar/Schitzophrenic and he is constantly trying to control his 'marijuana addiction', I recommend to him not to smoke. He hallucinates and imagines himself a princess with some kind of multicolored coat, I have to say though, his delusions are quite beautiful to hear him tell them. He gets manic but not violent at all- I think he may be more dangerous when he's normal. He also told me pot triggered his delusions in his late teens, although he was always depressed. See, the pot helps his depression but aggravates his psycosis.

Marinol cannot hold a candle to a nice joint. Marinol is euphoric but... something's missing.
Cannabanoids and about 300 other active chemicals. It's only THC! When you take Marinol or even eat Hashish, the effect is way different than smoking, body effects or brain effects. Smoking it affects the brain way more. You have to read a book to research all the variables...
When I take Marinol I feel slightly agitated, you get rushes in waves that I have heard people say is dizzy. Higher doses will make you paranoid, rapid heartbeat, distances and shapes seem wrong, and brightening of light and colors(visual) It can be scary if you forget you took the drug and paranoia takes over.

i had the choice between marinol and zofran, and wish i've chosen marinol! i think zofran is the single most expensive drug i've ever come across-- almost $600 for 30 tabs!

What was the Marinol prescribed for? Geez where do I find a doctor willing to prescribe these meds, I had to fight just for Provigil.
This is the end of the thread.
