what are bp effects of selegeline + amphetamine?

Posted by 3 Beer Effect on December 27, 2004, at 21:03:05

Hello,
I was wondering what the blood pressure effects of selegeline/l-deprenyl/eldepryl are?

I was thinking of ordering a diet pill from Mexico called Clobenzorex (Asenlix) that metabolizes to d-amphetamine. However, since I take 5 mg of selegeline per day, I am a bit concerned about the blood pressure effects, especially since supposedly the reason Clobenzorex is banned in the US is that it caused hypertension in clinical trials.

Has anyone here combined an amphetamine like Adderall, Dextrostat or a amphetamine like diet pill such as Didrex with selegeline?

I did try coke while I was on selegeline therapy once & my blood pressure went up to kind of high levels - the highest after a line was 172/105 with a pulse rate of 126. My normal resting rate is ?/85 with a pulse of like 82. Is 172/105 dangerously high/hypertensive crisis territory?

Thanks,
3 Beer Effect

This blood pressure is in the dangerously high levels.

Selegeline itself tends to lower PB, but I guess the combination does not.

Sorry if this is an ignornant question, but why are substances (like cocaine etc) that raise blood pressure dangerous with MAOIs? Seeing that MAOIs often lower baseline blood pressure? Or is there some tyramine issue that I'm not realising?
