switching SSRIS- screwed up dose!

Posted by olysi79 on December 27, 2004, at 19:16:07

Well, I am supposed to be switching SSRIS- moving from Luvox to PAxil and what do I do... I screw up the dose completely. I was only suppossed to take 1/2 a paxil tab (10 mgs)once a day and then 100 mgs of luvox... Well, I end up taking 1/2 a paxil tab 2x a day because i misunderstand the directions... hence I've been taking 100 MGS of LUVOX AND 20 MGS of PAxil.. At first I was going to say fine... and stay there because I would have ended up on 40 MGS of PAxil (which is only 10 MGS more than what was the original plan)... called PDOC about it and they weren't happy... afraid of me going manic.... at first I said I'd take my chances but the idea of going into a mixed phase is absolutely nauseating... How can I gently do this and get myself back on track? Any ideas?... They want me to just hold off on adding anymore Paxil and drop the Luvox down for a week to 50 MGS... then finally drop the Luvox and go up on PAxil to 30... so now, not only am I getting used to a new SSRI, I'm also dropping down in overall antidepressant levels altogether... ANXIETY!
Does anyone know if Paxil is a stronger SSRI than Luvox? Any ideas on dosage equivalents?

I believe that 20mg of Paxil and 50mg of Luvox are the starting theraputic doseages for each med. Although I could take 50mg of Luvox, my pdoc at the time, would only let me take l0mg of Paxil. Because of my high anxiety, he didn't want the Paxil higher. Phillipa

I thought you may want to know that sometime Paxil can be vey sedating. My daughter tried taking it and could not stay awake during school. She took it before bed, but it seems to stay in your body for a longer period of time. Good luck. -L
